Stade Rochelais vs Union Bordeaux-Begles: 17 European games unbeaten, and one point between them in the table
Union Bordeaux-Begles were 24-17 down at half-time at Kingsholm on 16 October and came away with a 36-36 draw. Louis Bielle-Biarrey scored twice, and the result kept UBB unbeaten in 17 Champions Cup matches.
They travel to Stade Marcel-Deflandre for round seven of the Top 14 on Sunday, with kick-off at 20:05 UK time (21:05 in France). Ludovic Cayre is the referee.
The two sides sit next to each other in the table. UBB are third with 19 points and Stade Rochelais fourth on 18, both with four wins and two defeats from six games. Toulouse lead on 24 and Pau are second on 22.
The points difference separates them more clearly. UBB are on plus 64, the product of home wins of 64-5 over Racing 92, 40-10 over Stade Francais and 51-28 over Lyon. Stade Rochelais are on plus nine, after a 39-17 defeat at Pau and a home loss to Racing 92 in round three.
Stade Rochelais had a smoother European weekend. Ronan O’Gara’s side beat the Lions 31-14 at home on 17 October with an attacking bonus point, Tevita Ofa, Oscar Jegou, Davit Niniashvili, Tolu Latu and Avakuki Niusalelekitoga scoring the tries.
The last two league meetings went one each, both at home: Stade Rochelais won 45-15 at Deflandre and UBB won 23-18 in Bordeaux during the 2025-26 season. Across the last five Top 14 meetings, Stade Rochelais lead three wins to two.
Stade Rochelais: two home wins from three, and a back line short of five players
Stade Rochelais opened the season with a 30-27 home win over Toulouse, then beat Clermont 38-13 at Deflandre on 3 October. Between those two came a home defeat to Racing 92, and their home record ranks only 11th in the league so far.
The win at Lyon on 10 October was their best away result, 28-16 with an attacking bonus point. Antoine Hastoy, Valentin Bouju, Dillyn Leyds and Watisoni Waqanisaravi all scored tries, and Bouju’s display at scrum-half has kept him in the side.
The injury list is concentrated in the backs. Jonathan Danty (knee), UJ Seuteni (pectoral), George Moala (arm) and Thomas Berjon (knee) are all out, along with Sam Tuifua (thigh), and Will Skelton and David Kriel have long-term Achilles injuries.
Nolann Le Garrec is a doubt with a hamstring problem. He missed the Lions game and O’Gara hasn’t given a return date, saying he won’t take risks with him, so Bouju is likely to start again at nine.
Gregory Alldritt and Jegou are both fit and started against the Lions, with Pierre Bourgarit and Semi Lagivala also back. The pack that beat the Lions is close to first choice, which is where Stade Rochelais’s case for Sunday rests.
Their two narrowest wins came early in the season: 30-27 against Toulouse and 21-20 at Toulon on 12 September. The later wins have been wider, 38-13 against Clermont and 28-16 at Lyon, with the 39-17 defeat at Pau on 26 September in between.

Union Bordeaux-Begles: plus 64 in the table, and a half-back problem without Jalibert
Matthieu Jalibert suffered a relapse of his right quadriceps injury before the Gloucester game and is reported to be out for six to eight weeks. He first tore the muscle against Stade Francais on 20 September, so UBB have already played three Top 14 games without him.
They won two of those three. UBB beat Lyon 51-28 at home and won 23-22 at Clermont on 10 October, where Maxime Lucu scored 15 points including a try and Hugo Reus kicked the winning penalty in the 65th minute. The defeat in that run was 38-25 at Perpignan.
Martin Page-Relo, who scored a try at Kingsholm, was later seen with his arm in a sling, and Arthur Retiere is also injured. Yannick Bru has lost several options at nine and ten in a short space of time, and Lucu and Reus have shared the goal-kicking in the last two games.
The away record is weaker than the home one. UBB lost 48-12 at Toulouse in round two and at Perpignan in round four, and the win at Clermont is their only Top 14 victory on the road so far.
The attack still travels. Bielle-Biarrey’s two tries, plus scores from Page-Relo, Sipili Falatea and Pablo Uberti, gave UBB 36 points away to Gloucester, and they’ve scored 215 Top 14 points in six games, more than 35 per match.
Probable lineup Stade Rochelais: Kaddouri, Bourgarit, Sorin; Kante Samba, Waqanisaravi; McFarland, Jegou, Alldritt (capt.); Bouju, Hastoy; Niniashvili, Favre, Lagivala, Ofa; Elissalde (side that started against the Lions)
Probable lineup Union Bordeaux-Begles: Not announced at time of publication

Our prediction: Union Bordeaux-Begles to win (3.10)
We’re backing UBB to win at 3.10. The price treats La Rochelle as clear favourites, but the table has the visitors a point ahead with a points difference 55 better, and Stade Rochelais have already lost at home this season.
The half-back injuries are the case against us, and they’re real. UBB have been playing without Jalibert since 20 September, though, and in that spell they’ve won two of three Top 14 games, including the one-point win at Clermont, before drawing at Kingsholm.
Stade Rochelais are missing five backs, including Danty and Seuteni, and Le Garrec is doubtful. With both sides weakened, we’d rather take the team scoring 35 points a game at a price above 3.00 than the home side at 1.35.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
