Sassuolo vs Lazio: the leaders arrive with six straight games of two goals or more
Lazio are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues that hasn’t conceded a first-half goal this season. They’ve also scored at least twice in each of their last six Serie A games, and Saturday’s 2-1 win over Parma took them to the top of the table on 22 points from eight matches.
It’s the club’s best start since 1999-00, and Gennaro Gattuso’s side are still unbeaten in the league. They’ve won their last four league games away from home, and the next one is at the MAPEI Stadium in Reggio Emilia on Tuesday 27 October, kick-off 17:30 UK time.
Sassuolo are heading the other way. Alberto Aquilani’s team have eight points, they’ve taken one from their last four matches, and they lost 2-0 at Como on Saturday. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in Serie A all season.
Their home record is what’s keeping them out of the bottom three. Sassuolo are unbeaten at the MAPEI under Aquilani, and the best result of their season came there, a 3-2 win over Juventus.
The fixture itself has leaned towards Rome for a decade. Lazio have won 14 of the last 24 meetings, Sassuolo six, with four draws. The last two were split: Sassuolo won 1-0 at home in September 2025, and Lazio won 2-1 at the Olimpico in March.
The bookmakers have Lazio at 2.35, the draw at 3.40 and Sassuolo at 2.90. I think that’s too generous to a home side that’s been leaking goals all autumn, and too cautious about the team that’s top of the league.
Sassuolo: unbeaten at home under Aquilani, but one point from the last four
The last six league results read like two different seasons. A 2-2 at Bologna and the 3-2 over Juventus came first, then a 2-1 defeat at Monza, a 1-1 draw with AC Milan, a 4-2 loss at Frosinone and Saturday’s 2-0 at Como.
Aquilani has made a change in goal. Arijanet Muric lost his place to Stefano Turati after his third major error of the season, and Turati is expected to start again on Tuesday.
The injury list hasn’t shortened. Ismael Kone, Jay Idzes, Daniel Boloca and Fedde Leysen are all out, which leaves the centre of defence to Duje Caleta-Car and Jan Odenthal. Nemanja Matic was taken off early at Como with fatigue but should be available to anchor the midfield.
At home, the numbers are respectable. Sassuolo have won three and drawn two of their last five home games in all competitions, scoring ten and conceding five. Away from Reggio Emilia they’ve gone 11 games without a win, which explains why the table looks the way it does.
Goals at both ends follow them around. Both teams scored in eight of their last ten matches, and Domenico Berardi on the right remains the player most likely to give them one on Tuesday.

Lazio: 14 goals in six league games and one conceded in their last four away
Gattuso’s run since the end of September: 2-1 at Udinese, 2-2 against AC Milan, 2-0 at Venezia, 3-1 against Monza, 3-0 at Juventus and 2-1 against Parma. That’s 14 goals in six games, and the only points dropped came against Milan.
The win in Turin is the one that stands out. Going to Juventus and winning by three isn’t something Lazio have done often, and it came in the middle of a four-game winning run on the road.
Lazio have the best defensive record in Serie A. Away from home they’ve conceded once in their last four league games, and their last away league defeat was May’s derby loss to Roma.
Kenneth Taylor scored the opener against Parma, his first Serie A goal in 13 games. He should keep his place in a midfield three with Davide Frattesi and Belahyane, behind Isaksen, Noslin and Mattia Zaccagni.
There are absences. Albert Gudmundsson is out with a dislocated shoulder, Andrea Pinamonti missed the Parma game with a fever, and Adam Marusic and Nicolo Rovella could both miss out. Gattuso won on Saturday without Gudmundsson and Pinamonti.
Probable lineup Sassuolo: Turati; Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Odenthal, Doig; Lipani, Matic, Thorstvedt; Berardi, Esposito, Lauriente
Probable lineup Lazio: Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Sutalo, Doekhi, Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Isaksen, Noslin, Zaccagni
Free Serie A Prediction: Sassuolo vs Lazio
Our prediction: Lazio to win @ 2.35
Lazio have scored at least twice in six straight league games, and Sassuolo haven’t kept a clean sheet in Serie A this season. If Gattuso’s side reach two again, Sassuolo need three to stop them, and they’ve managed that once in their last six league games, against Juventus.
The case against is Sassuolo’s unbeaten home record under Aquilani and the 1-0 win in this fixture last September. That’s real, but this Sassuolo side has one point from four games, a new goalkeeper and four defenders or midfielders in the treatment room.
I’d back Lazio at 2.35. They’re top, they’re winning away, and they haven’t conceded before half-time in eight league games, which takes the early crowd out of it at the MAPEI.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
