Racing 92 vs Montpellier Herault Rugby: a home game in Le Mans for a side at minus 53
Racing 92’s last game in Le Mans was a European win over the Ospreys, 18-14, in 2014. Twelve years later they’re back at the Stade Marie-Marvingt for a home Top 14 fixture moved out of the Paris region, against last season’s beaten finalists.
It’s a bad moment to give up home comforts. Racing are 12th on 10 points, with two wins from six and a points difference of minus 53, the second-worst in the division behind Vannes.
Montpellier are seventh on 14 points, level with Stade Français and Lyon. Their points difference of plus 41 is the fourth-best in the league, behind only Toulouse, Bordeaux-Bègles and Pau.
Racing are 1.77 and Montpellier 2.07, prices that ignore a 94-point gap in points difference. I think they’re the wrong way round.
Kick-off is 3.35pm UK time on Saturday 24 October, with tickets on sale from €12.
Both sides also played in the Champions Cup last weekend. Montpellier won 32-14 at Bath, while Racing lost 33-25 at Munster.
Racing 92: one home win from three and a heavy opening night at Bordeaux
The season began with a 64-5 defeat at Bordeaux-Bègles, and the home opener went little better: Lyon won 48-31 on 12 September.
Racing then won at La Rochelle in round three, the result that hinted at a recovery. Bayonne took the next home game 20-17 on 26 September.
The 55-25 win over Perpignan on 3 October is still their only home win of the season. A week later Toulon beat them 29-15 at Mayol, and that was the fourth defeat in six.
Patrice Collazo’s squad reached the semi-finals last season before Toulouse beat them heavily. The core hasn’t been broken up, and the club has just extended Maxime Baudonne’s contract until 2029 and Demba Bamba’s until 2030.
Their home form has been the weakest part of the season. Racing have the 13th-best home record in the Top 14, with defeats to Lyon and Bayonne either side of the Perpignan win.
The defeat at Munster means Racing have now lost five of their seven games in all competitions this season.

Montpellier Herault Rugby: 163 points scored, plus 41 and a 32-14 win at Bath
Joan Caudullo’s side lost two of their first four, 19-27 at home to Pau and 18-40 at Toulouse with a rotated team. In between, they won 26-12 at Vannes and 50-13 against Perpignan.
The 28-0 win over Toulon followed on 4 October, the result that ended Pierre Mignoni’s time in charge at Mayol.
The 30-22 defeat at Stade Français on 10 October was closer than the score. Montpellier trailed 16-15 at half-time, Stuart Hogg scored a try, and the game only went away on 77 minutes with Léo Barré’s interception.
A week later they went to Bath and won 32-14 in their Champions Cup opener, scoring ten more points than they managed in Paris.
Last season ended with a Top 14 final defeat to Toulouse and the Challenge Cup trophy. Over six rounds this term they’ve scored 163 points and conceded 122.
Their away record in the league is one win from three, the fifth-best on the road in the division. The two defeats came at Toulouse, with a rotated side, and at a Stade Français team that has won every home game.

Free Rugby Prediction: Racing 92 vs Montpellier Herault Rugby
Our prediction: Montpellier Herault Rugby to win (2.07)
Racing are favourites at 1.77, but they’ve won one of three home games this season, and this one isn’t being played at their own ground. Montpellier have won away at Vannes in the Top 14 and at Bath in Europe within the last six weeks.
Against my pick: Montpellier have lost two of three Top 14 away games, and Racing scored 55 points the last time they played in front of their own fans. That came against a Perpignan side who’ve lost all three of their away games.
The points difference gap between these two is 94 after six rounds, and a neutral venue takes away most of what Racing had going for them. I’m backing Montpellier at 2.07.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
