RC Vannes vs ASM Clermont Top 14 prediction

RC Vannes vs ASM Clermont – Free Rugby Prediction – 24/10/2026

RC Vannes vs ASM Clermont: bottom of the table, but favourites against a side that ships 41 a game away Top 14

RC Vannes have one point from six Top 14 games, eight behind Castres in 13th. That point came from a 43-40 home defeat to Pau on 3 October, the closest they’ve come to a first win this season.

Clermont arrive in Brittany 11th on 11 points, and they haven’t won away from the Michelin all season. Lyon beat them 40-36, Bayonne 46-24 and La Rochelle 38-13.

That’s 124 points conceded in three away games, an average of just over 41. It’s why the bookmakers make the bottom side favourites at 1.68, with Clermont at 2.20.

Kick-off is 1.30pm UK time on Saturday 24 October, the first of the round’s seven games.

Vannes lost 57-19 at Harlequins in the Challenge Cup, and Clermont were beaten 48-23 at home by Leinster in the Champions Cup, a week after Bordeaux-Bègles had won at the Michelin in the Top 14.

I think Vannes pick up their first win on Saturday. Their home defeats have gone from 14 points against Montpellier to six against Toulouse and three against Pau.

RC Vannes: no wins from six, but the home margins keep shrinking RC Vannes

Jean-Noël Spitzer’s side lost 26-12 to Montpellier in their first home game on 12 September.

A week later they moved the Toulouse game to Roazhon Park in Rennes and lost 29-23 to the champions.

The Pau game on 3 October was the best they’ve played. Vannes scored 40 points, lost by three and took a losing bonus point, the only point on their board after six rounds.

Away from home they’ve been less competitive: 20-29 at Castres, 10-28 at Toulon and 12-21 at Perpignan, where it was 0-0 at half-time before Peceli Yato came off the bench to open the scoring on 50 minutes.

At home, Vannes have scored 75 points in three games, 25 a match. Clermont have conceded more than that in every one of their three away games.

The table explains why Saturday matters so much to them. With Castres on nine points and Racing on ten, a win would put Vannes within reach of the sides directly above them.

ASM Clermont: two wins at the Michelin, three heavy defeats on the road ASM Clermont

Clermont sit on 11 points, with two wins and three bonus points, and a points difference of minus 29.

Christophe Urios’s side opened with a 40-36 defeat at Lyon, scoring 36 points and still coming away with only a bonus point.

Their two wins both came at the Michelin: 25-16 against Stade Français on 12 September and 20-6 against Castres a fortnight later.

Bayonne won 46-24 on 19 September, and La Rochelle won 38-13 on 3 October, margins of 22 and 25 points.

Then came the first home defeat of the season, 22-23 to Bordeaux-Bègles on 10 October. Maxime Lucu scored 15 points for the visitors, Hugo Reus kicked the winning penalty on 65 minutes and Tom Willis won the final turnover.

The 48-23 Champions Cup defeat to Leinster followed. That’s two home defeats in eight days, and Clermont now travel to a ground where every opponent this season has scored at least 26 points.

Free Rugby Prediction: RC Vannes vs ASM Clermont

Our prediction: RC Vannes to win (1.68)

Clermont’s away numbers are poor: 73 points scored and 124 conceded in three games. Vannes have scored 75 at home, more than Clermont have managed on the road.

Vannes haven’t won a Top 14 game yet, and Clermont have the deeper squad. I still think a side that put 40 on Pau at La Rabine will score enough against a defence that has let in 38 or more on every trip.

I’m backing Vannes to get their first win at 1.68.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
