Parma vs Monza: zero points, zero goals scored and seven conceded 
Parma and Monza sit 17th and 18th in Serie A after two rounds, both still stuck on zero points. No other fixture in this third round pits two teams in quite such a miserable state.

Parma have failed to score in their first two Serie A matches. Even so, the Emilia club have conceded only three goals across that spell.
That imbalance shapes everything about the build-up. The Ducali defend fairly well but create nothing of note, which leaves them trapped in tight games where the first goal changes everything.
The expected shape is a 3-5-2 with Corvi in goal. The back three should be Delprato, Troilo and Drobnic, with Britschgi and Valeri providing width down the flanks.
Midfield is the main question mark. Adrián Bernabé is coming off muscle fatigue picked up in the Coppa Italia and still needs to be assessed, while Nicolussi Caviglia is already ruled out.
Those two doubts hit the area that feeds the forwards. Ordonez and Keita are set to complete a five-man midfield that drives Parma’s entire rhythm.
Up front, the load falls on a pair still waiting for a breakthrough. Bilal Toure and Romero are expected to start together again, with the job of finally getting Parma on the board.
The mood around the club has turned noticeably sharper since Tuesday. The home defeat in the Coppa Italia was met with boos, and that means Monza arrive under unusual pressure for early September.
So the visit of Monza comes at a decent time for Parma. No Serie A defence has handed out more space since the restart than the Brianzoli.

Monza have conceded seven goals in two Serie A matches. They share that total with Fiorentina, and nobody has done worse.
The three goals they have scored in the same period soften the picture a little. The attack is doing its bit, but it can’t make up for a defensive mess of this size, as the 2-3 loss to Udinese showed.
The 0-4 hammering by Inter remains the most worrying result of the season so far. No other Serie A side has shipped four in a game since the restart.
The Coppa Italia trip brought a different story. Monza went to Torino and won 1-0, their only victory of the season and their only clean sheet.
The goalkeeper spot is still up for grabs ahead of the trip to the Tardini. Tqornqvist, signed in the summer 2026 window, is battling Thiam for the starting role.
Midfield is also missing two important pieces. Captain Matteo Pessina and Patrick Ciurria are out, while Ngonge and Varela remain under assessment.
The set-up should stay built around a back three with two support players behind the striker. That leaves the flanks exposed, exactly where Britschgi and Valeri operate for Parma.
All the uncertainty makes life harder for the Brianzoli staff. An undecided goalkeeper, a missing captain and two forwards still being checked out — that’s a lot to juggle for a defence already the leakiest in the league.

The absences matter too on the Monza side. Pessina and Ciurria are both out, and the goalkeeper issue still isn’t settled three days before kick-off.
The emotional edge also tilts toward the Ducali. Booed on Tuesday after their Coppa Italia exit, the Emilia side have little choice but to take charge in front of their own crowd.
The call is made: Parma win. An attack that still hasn’t clicked usually finds something against the most fragile defence in the league, and they’re unlikely to get a friendlier chance anytime soon.
