Basketball illustrating Michigan guard Mila Holloway's indefinite absence

NCAAW: Michigan lose Mila Holloway indefinitely

No timetable from Ann Arbor

Michigan announced on Thursday that junior guard Mila Holloway will be sidelined indefinitely with an injury to her lower left leg. The school attached no return date to the statement.

Holloway started all 35 games last season and averaged 12.3 points, 4.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals. The Wolverines went 28-7, finished 15-3 in the Big Ten and pushed through to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Holloway earned All-Big Ten honorable mention for the campaign.

Sixty-nine games, sixty-nine starts

That number frames the problem. Holloway has appeared 69 times for Michigan and started every one of them, averaging 11.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals across her career. The Wolverines have never had to organise a backcourt around anybody else since she arrived.

They will now practise without her while the medical staff works out how long the leg needs. An indefinite tag this far out from the season opener leaves the coaching staff planning for two versions of the same team.
