Section Paloise have built their rise step by step, finishing 8th in 2025 before climbing to 4th last season. That steady progress has turned the Bearnais club into a genuine force in the league.
The gap to Montpellier after the regular season was only four points. Over a full campaign, there was very little between them.
The ending, however, was brutal for Pau. They were stunned at home by Racing in the quarter-finals, despite having home advantage.
The club reacted in the transfer market by keeping hold of their best players. That stability should help them stay in the mix again this year.
One stat, though, puts a serious dent in the case for them here. Pau posted the 7th-best away record in the Top 14, with four wins and nine defeats.
That goes a long way to explaining the difference between these two sides in this specific match-up. Pau’s 4th-place finish was built largely at Stade du Hameau.
A trip to the league finalists on opening day is a tough ask, then. The fixture computer has not done Section any favours.
