Le Mans vs Monaco: 17th against seventh, and four goals in five for the hosts Ligue 1

Le Mans are 17th in Ligue 1 with seven points from nine games, and only Le Havre, on two, are below them. They’ve scored four goals in their last five league matches and conceded 10.

Monaco visit the Stade Marie-Marvingt on Sunday 8 November, 16:15 UK time, seventh on 15 points. They’ve won once in five themselves, and I don’t think that record should scare anyone off them here.

Their last result was a 3-1 defeat at Paris FC on 1 November, and it followed a 1-1 with Lille and a 1-0 loss at Lorient. Four wins from nine leaves them three points off second.

The gap to Le Mans is eight points. Le Mans’ only league win since the middle of September was the 2-1 against Lorient on 19 September.

These clubs last met in Ligue 2 in May 2013, a 2-1 Monaco win, and Monaco took three of the four meetings at that level. The bookmakers have them at 1.73, and that’s the price I’d take.

Le Mans: one win since September and a thin defence for Monaco’s visit Le Mans

Troyes beat Le Mans 2-0 on 31 October, and Troyes are one point above them in 16th. That result followed a 1-1 at Auxerre and a 3-0 home defeat to Toulouse on 16 October.

One win, four draws and four defeats gives them seven points from nine matches, and the draws have kept them in touch. Angers and Troyes are only a point ahead.

Home form is mixed rather than poor. Four home games have brought one win, two draws and one defeat, with six scored and eight conceded.

The injury list goes straight at their back line. Sidibé is out with a foot injury, while Voyer (thigh) and Larouci (groin) are both doubtful, and that’s three defenders before anyone has looked at Monaco’s attack.

Colas and Bourabaa are also out, Colas up front and Bourabaa in midfield with an ankle injury. Le Mans have kept 67% of their side over the last six matches, and those absences will test that continuity.

They did score at the league leaders on 10 October, losing 3-1 at PSG. They’ve scored once in the three league games since.

Monaco: one league win in five, a Thursday in Europe and Salisu left out Monaco

Monaco have conceded eight in five league games and scored six. Lorient beat them 1-0, Paris FC scored three, and Toulouse took a 2-2 from the Stade Louis-II on 10 October.

Away form has held up better than the table suggests. Five away games have brought two wins, a draw and two defeats, with five scored and six conceded, and that’s a much tighter record than Le Mans’ at home.

Fati is out with a hamstring injury, Dier with a muscle problem and Idumbo-Muzambo with a groin injury. Salisu is also unavailable, and that’s listed as the coach’s decision rather than a fitness problem.

The Conference League game against Nordsjaelland comes three days before this, and rotation is likely. Monaco have kept just 56% of their side over the last six matches, so that isn’t new.

The last league win was 2-1 against Lens on 18 September. That’s seven weeks without a Ligue 1 victory.

They’re level with Marseille on 15 points and one behind Rennes in fifth, so three points here would put them on 18, the total Lille hold in second.

Free Ligue 1 Prediction: Le Mans vs Monaco

Our prediction: Monaco to win at odds of 1.73

I’d back Monaco at 1.73. Le Mans have one win in nine, four goals in five and three defenders in doubt or out.

Monaco’s seven weeks without a league win and Thursday’s game in Europe are the honest objections. I still rate their two away wins from five above anything Le Mans have shown at home against a side of this level.

A 2-0 or 2-1 away win is the result I’d expect, and I wouldn’t be put off by a rotated team sheet.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
