Inter Milan vs Parma: the champions keep falling behind, and keep finding Lautaro
Three matches in a row, Inter have gone 2-0 down. Three matches in a row, they’ve dragged themselves back. That’s the strange identity of Cristian Chivu’s champions right now: never comfortable, rarely beaten.
Thirteen points from five league games, four wins and a draw, second in Serie A. The draw was the most telling of all: 2-0 down at Roma’s Stadio Olimpico before Lautaro Martinez scored twice after the break to rescue a 2-2.
Parma come to San Siro on Saturday 10 October with one league win to their name. Kick-off is at 18:00 Paris time.
The visitors took that first win just before the break, 2-1 against Genoa at the Tardini, with Pontus Almqvist scoring in the 80th minute. Before it, four games without a victory. On the road, they’ve lost both league trips.
The last two meetings both finished 2-0 to Inter, including the day in May when that result sealed the title. Same scoreline twice. Same outcome expected again.
The only real question is who scores. We’ve got a name.
Inter Milan: five home wins in a row and three goals a game at San Siro
Five home games, five wins, three goals per match on average. Whatever’s going wrong for Inter early in games, San Siro hasn’t noticed. They put four past Monza and five past Udinese in a 5-3 that summed up their season: goals at both ends, but always more at theirs.
The defending is the issue. Going 2-0 down three times in succession isn’t bad luck, it’s a pattern. Inter have conceded 1.2 goals per game across their last ten matches in all competitions, and both teams have scored in 70% of them. Chivu won’t be happy with that, and he shouldn’t be.
Hakan Calhanoglu is a doubt with a calf problem, and that’s a genuine blow. The captain scored the only goal in the 1-0 win at Cagliari back in August and runs the midfield when he’s fit. Luis Henrique is also out with an adductor issue.
Up front, there’s no such worry. Lautaro’s brace in Rome was a reminder of what he does in the moments that matter, and with Marcus Thuram alongside him, Inter’s front two rarely go a game without a chance. They’ve failed to score in none of their last ten matches.
That’s ten from ten with at least one goal. Remarkable consistency.

Parma: one win, a gutted defence and two defeats from two away days
Zion Suzuki and Alessandro Circati were sold over the summer. That’s the goalkeeper and a central defender from a back line that was one of Parma’s genuine strengths last season, and Carlos Cuesta has spent the first weeks of this campaign trying to rebuild it.
The early results reflect that. Four league games without a win before Genoa, and an overall record across their last ten matches of just two victories. They’re averaging 0.80 goals scored per game and have failed to score in four of those ten.
Away from home it’s bleaker still. Two league trips, two defeats, one goal scored, four conceded. Their expected goals against on the road sits at 2.46 per game, which tells you how often opponents are getting clear sights of goal.
Credit where it’s due: Cuesta’s side are awkward to play against, and they’ve actually conceded fewer league goals than the champions so far. But the injury list isn’t helping. Defenders Dominik Drobnic and Lautaro Valenti are doubts, so is midfielder Adrian Bernabe, and Caviglia is out.
David Romero, on target against Genoa, is likely to lead the line alone. He’ll get very little service at San Siro.
Not a great time to visit.
Probable lineup Inter Milan: Josep Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Zielinski, Jones, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez (Calhanoglu doubtful)
Probable lineup Parma: Corvi; Diego Carlos, Troilo, Britschgi; Del Prato, Sierro, Keita, Valeri; Toure, Lontani; Romero

Our prediction: Lautaro Martinez to score anytime (1.67)
Inter winning is the obvious outcome and the price reflects it. So we’re going one step further and naming the man most likely to decide it. Lautaro scored both goals in the comeback at Roma, Inter have scored in all of their last ten matches, and they average three a game at home.
Parma’s away numbers are the other half of the argument. Two goals conceded per game on the road, an expected goals against figure of 2.46, and a defence still missing the spine it had last season. Inter will create plenty, and Lautaro is the one who finishes them.
Lautaro Martinez to score at any time, 1.67. Not complicated.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
