Hoffenheim and Stuttgart have each played two Bundesliga matches, and between them there have been 21 goals scored or conceded. None of the four games in question stayed below four goals.

VfB Stuttgart handled their first European assignment well, easing past Norwegian side Viking 3-1 in their Champions League opener.

The two clubs had wildly different second weekends. Hoffenheim threw away a two-goal lead against Borussia Dortmund, while Stuttgart cruised to a 4-1 win over Cologne.
There is, though, one glaring common thread: six goals conceded each in 180 minutes. That is the second-worst total in the league in that area, and they are tied on it.
Tactically, it is pretty straightforward: two leaky back lines, two attacks that can score in bursts. Goals have been the one constant in both teams’ starts to the season.
Hoffenheim, two defeats and the same old story 
Hoffenheim’s opening two games have brought zero points, four goals scored and six conceded. They are 16th and one of three teams still winless.
Their opener ended in a 3-2 defeat to Cologne, in a five-goal game from the start. A week later, the same script played out against Borussia Dortmund.
That second loss hurt, because Hoffenheim were 2-0 up before collapsing to a 3-2 defeat. Avdullahu had struck in the 45th minute, only for Dortmund to turn it round late on.
Serhou Guirassy started the comeback before Hajdari finished the job. Throwing away a two-goal lead in half an hour is exactly the sort of thing that costs points over a season.
Going forward, there has at least been something to work with: Hoffenheim have scored twice in both games. The issue is that it has never been enough to offset what is going on at the back.
They have not drawn a blank in either match, which sets them apart from the other sides near the bottom. Hamburg, at the foot of the table, still have not scored in the league.
The danger for this home game is game management late on. Across the two fixtures, Hoffenheim have conceded four goals after the break, and that has a direct impact on their points total.
They have also never led for more than 15 minutes across those two matches. That tells its own story about their inability to settle a game.

Stuttgart started the campaign with a heavy beating, shipping five goals away in Munich. After one round, they were bottom of the table.
The response was immediate. VfB beat Cologne 4-1 at the MHPArena in matchday two, with the visitors missing the injured Said El Mala.
Their goal difference is still minus one, but the two-game picture is misleading. Five goals scored in two matches puts Stuttgart among the division’s most productive attacks, behind only Augsburg, Leverkusen, Elversberg and Mainz.
Four goals in one game is also their best return in a single match so far this season. The attacking momentum is real.
The contrast between those two displays raises a proper consistency issue, and this trip will act as a test. Stuttgart have delivered only one convincing performance from two.
They remain the only team in the division to have conceded five goals in a single match. Defensive solidity is clearly the main job still to be done.
The key question is whether VfB can exploit the spaces left by an opponent who still looks unsettled at the back. On that front, they showed against Cologne that they can punish quickly.
Saturday afternoon also happens to be a slot Stuttgart know well. It is the only time this season they have won, against Cologne.
