Famalicao vs Alverca: a home fortress against a side that can’t win away
Ten unbeaten in eleven. That’s Famalicao’s record at the Estadio Municipal 22 de Junho since the turn of the year: six wins, four draws, one defeat. It’s the number that frames Monday night’s Primeira Liga meeting with Alverca, which closes round eight at 21:15 Paris time.
Alverca’s away record points the other way. Five defeats in their last six Primeira Liga road games. Two away wins in the whole of 2026. On paper, that’s a mismatch before a ball is kicked.
The table is less clear. Famalicao are 13th, one point and three places behind their visitors. A side that finished fifth last season has made a slow start, while Alverca, 11th on their top-flight return last term, have quietly built some momentum.
Both clubs went into the international break on the back of good results. Famalicao finally won a league game, 4-0 at Nacional on 19 September. Alverca beat Nacional 3-1 away and then Rio Ave 1-0 at home, their first back-to-back league wins since April.
So which trend holds? Break down the numbers and the home side’s record carries more weight than one good fortnight for the visitors.
Last season’s meetings were tight. Alverca won 1-0 at home in January thanks to a Chiquinho penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Famalicao returned the favour in May with a 1-0 win, Abubakar heading in on 83 minutes to seal fifth place. Two games, two goals, both late.
Famalicao: slow out of the blocks, but Koutsias has found his range
Three draws in a row before the breakthrough. Famalicao drew 0-0 with Gil Vicente, 2-2 at Estrela Amadora and 1-1 at home to Sporting, coming from behind against one of the league’s heavyweights. Then came Nacional, and four goals in Madeira.
Georgios Koutsias and Sorriso scored twice each that night. Koutsias now has five league goals this season. That’s the clearest sign Carlos Carvalhal’s attack is starting to click.
The opening weeks don’t bear close inspection. A 2-1 home defeat to Maritimo on the first weekend, then a 1-0 loss at Santa Clara. That home defeat is the lone blemish on their 2026 record at the Municipal, and it takes some explaining given how solid they’ve been there otherwise.
There are absences. Tom Van de Looi has been out since picking up an injury at Santa Clara on 23 August. Swiss striker Romeo Beney is suspended after a straight red card against Sporting on 13 September. Neither is a disaster, but Beney’s ban removes a rotation option up front.
Gil Dias, Sorriso and Koutsias should form the front line again. If Famalicao get the ball wide early, Alverca’s back three will be stretched.

Alverca: Camara is scoring, but the road form still doesn’t hold up
Dawda Camara has four goals in four games for club and country. The summer signing from Girona scored a brace in the 3-1 win at Nacional, struck after three minutes against Rio Ave, and then scored for Mauritania in a 3-1 win over the Central African Republic during the break.
He’s the reason Alverca have momentum. The 1-0 win over Rio Ave handed their opponents a first league defeat of the season, though the performance in front of goal was wasteful. One goal from that many chances won’t always be enough.
Sergio Ferreira’s side opened with a 2-2 home draw against Estrela Amadora, lost 3-1 at Sporting, drew 1-1 with Santa Clara and lost 2-1 at home to Braga. Two wins and two draws from six, and both wins came in the last fortnight.
The injury list hits the spine. Sabit Abdulai and 22-year-old defender Julian Martinez are both out with knee injuries. Nabil Touaizi has missed the last three games since coming off injured against Santa Clara on 29 August. Bastien Meupiyou is set to miss a sixth consecutive game with a muscle problem.
That’s a lot of absent bodies for a squad with limited depth. And the away record? Five defeats from six. There’s no sugarcoating it.
Probable lineup Famalicao: Carevic; Pinheiro, Rofino, Van Breemen, Bondo; Pena, Szucs; De Amorim, Gil Dias, Sorriso, Koutsias
Probable lineup Alverca: Mendes; Baseya, Gomez, James; Spencer, Lucas, Gui, Chissumba; Chiquinho, Camara, Figueiredo

Our prediction: Famalicao to win
Famalicao’s record at home this calendar year is the strongest single argument on the table: ten unbeaten in eleven, six wins among them. Alverca’s five defeats from their last six away league games make the case from the other side.
Alverca’s recent form is built around one player. Camara is dangerous, but a back line missing Abdulai and Martinez, and a midfield without Touaizi and Meupiyou, will struggle to hold Koutsias and Sorriso for 90 minutes.
The double chance on the hosts is priced far too short to be worth backing. We’ll take the straight win. Famalicao have finally found their scoring touch, and this is the right opponent at the right ground to build on it.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
