Chicago Fire vs Inter Miami: second place in the East is on the line at Soldier Field 
Five points separate Chicago Fire and Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference, and the hosts also have a game in hand on their rivals for the night.
The match is set for Wednesday, September 9 at 7:30pm Chicago time, which is Thursday, September 10 at 2:30am in France. Soldier Field hosts this regular-season clash.
A win would cut the gap to second place to two points. The schedule is kind enough to Chicago too, with five of its next seven matches coming at home.
Miami come in under far less comfortable circumstances. The Florida club are winless in five of their last six league games and sit ten points behind conference leaders Nashville SC.
Both sides are coming off draws. Chicago played out a wild 4-4 in Toronto, while the Herons drew 2-2 with Atlanta United.
Recent history points towards the home side. In their last five MLS visits to Miami, the Soldier Field men have taken points four times, including three wins.

Third in the Eastern Conference, Chicago are on a run of three straight league draws. The latest, that 4-4 in Toronto, summed up Gregg Berhalter’s side perfectly.
The stat is brutal: Chicago have dropped 18 points this season in games where they scored first. No side has wasted a lead more often.
Still, Soldier Field has been a reliable base. Chicago are going for a fourth straight home league win, which would be their longest run of the season.
A win on Wednesday would also take them to eight home victories in the regular season. They last reached that mark back in 2019.
Maren Haile-Selassie is coming off a brace in Toronto, where Robert Lewandowski also netted his fifth MLS goal of the season. The home attack is not short of firepower.
There are, however, three injury doubts. Jonathan Bamba, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Andre Franco all missed the trip to Toronto with lower-limb injuries.

Inter Miami: 58 goals scored, but a leaky away defence 
The Herons boast the best attacking return in the league with 58 goals. They have scored in each of their last eight away games.
The flip side is just as clear. Miami have conceded at least two goals in eight away matches this season, including eight across their last two.
Kily Gonzalez has yet to lose since taking over on the Florida bench. He has also yet to win away, and the club are still waiting for their first road victory since July and a 1-0 win at CF Montreal.
Lionel Messi keeps driving the attack. The Argentine became the first player in MLS history to reach 30 goal contributions across three separate seasons, a mark he reached last weekend.
Against Atlanta United, he set up the goal for Casemiro, with Luis Suarez adding the other. That trio remains the visitors’ biggest threat.
The injury list is making life harder at the back. Sergio Reguilon has a hamstring problem, Micael is carrying an ankle issue, Santiago Morales has a quad concern, Gonzalo Lujan is dealing with lower-leg discomfort, while Tadeo Allende remains a doubt after a long spell out.

The attacking numbers on both sides make this market stack up. Miami have the league’s best scoring record with 58 goals, and they have found the net in all eight of their away matches.
The defences do the rest of the selling. Chicago come off that 4-4 in Toronto, while Miami have shipped eight goals in their last two away games and arrive with five defenders either sidelined or doubtful.
With Lewandowski and Haile-Selassie in form on one side, and Messi and Suarez on the other, both attacks should have more than enough to push this total over the line. We are backing over 3.5 goals.
