Celta Vigo vs Levante: seven men missing at Balaidos and a visitor with no win in five away games La Liga

Celta Vigo’s injury list runs to seven. Borja Iglesias, Starfelt, Hugo Gonzalez, Roman, Nunez, El Abdellaoui and Cuenca Martinez are all out or in doubt for Sunday’s visit of Levante, 17:30 UK time at Balaidos.

Iglesias is the name that changes the most. Celta have scored 10 goals in 11 La Liga games. Their defence has conceded the same number, which explains a record of two wins, six draws and three defeats.

Those six draws are the most striking part of it. Celta sit 10th on 12 points, and they’ve won exactly as many games as Levante, who are 18th on 10. Levante’s goal difference is minus five against Celta’s zero.

Levante have scored more than Celta, 16 against 10, and conceded 21 against 10. At the Ciutat de Valencia they’ve scored 2.60 a game in their recent home matches.

On their travels that drops to 0.60 a game. Levante’s last five away matches brought no wins, three draws and two defeats, with three scored and six conceded, and that’s 0.60 points a game.

The last meeting went their way. Levante won 3-2 at Balaidos on 12 May, after Celta had won 2-1 at the Ciutat de Valencia on 2 November 2025. Celta still lead the wider record with 12 wins from 20 recorded meetings.

Celta Vigo: five goals in five, and a Thursday defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise Celta Vigo

Claudio Giraldez’s side were beaten 2-1 at home by Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League on 5 November. That gives them under 72 hours before Levante, and it followed a 3-0 defeat at Rayo Vallecano on 31 October.

Two defeats ended a decent run. Celta had beaten Alaves 2-1 at home on 18 October, won 2-1 at Celtic four days later and drawn 0-0 with Real Betis at Balaidos on 25 October. That’s still only five goals in the last five games, with seven conceded.

At home the numbers are stronger. The last five at Balaidos read two wins, one draw and two defeats with nine scored and five conceded, and Celta average 1.33 points and 1.67 goals a game there across their last 10, against 0.50 goals away.

Without Iglesias, the likely front three is Hugo Alvarez, Ferran Jutgla and, if he’s fit, Hugo Gonzalez. Gonzalez is listed as doubtful, which could leave a forward line short of goals again in a third game in eight days.

Starfelt’s absence weakens a back three that has otherwise done its job, with 10 conceded in 11 league games. Celta have kept 65% of their starting side across the last six matches.

Bookmakers have them at around 1.80 to 1.92 to win, and a win would take them to 15 points, level with seventh-placed Athletic Bilbao.

Levante: 2.60 goals a game at home, 0.60 away Levante

Luis Castro’s side have played five league games since mid-October without any real pattern. They drew 3-3 with Sevilla on 12 October and 1-1 at Deportivo La Coruna on 16 October, then beat Athletic Bilbao 3-1 at home on 21 October.

The two most recent results were defeats: 2-1 at Real Sociedad on 25 October and 2-0 at home to Atletico Madrid on 31 October. Levante have now conceded two or more in three of their last five, and the defeat by Atletico was the only game in that run in which they didn’t score.

The away record is what stands out. Levante haven’t won any of their last five on the road, and they’ve scored 0.60 goals a game in those matches against 2.60 at home.

They do have a points cushion to play with, but only just. Levante’s 10 points match Elche’s, and they’re a point behind Espanyol, Osasuna and Racing Santander, with Valencia on nine and Malaga on five below them.

The injury news is better than Celta’s. Only Bardeli is confirmed out, and Dela is listed as doubtful with an overload. Castro has kept 75% of his starting side across the last six games.

Their price of around 4.30 to 4.50 reflects that away record, and the draw at 3.60 to 3.85 looks closer to their usual outcome on the road, given three draws in five.

Free La Liga Prediction: Celta Vigo vs Levante

Our prediction: Celta Vigo to win (around 1.80)

Levante’s away numbers decide this for us: no wins in their last five on the road, 0.60 goals scored per game and 1.20 conceded. Celta’s nine goals in their last five at Balaidos are enough to beat that.

The case against is real. Celta played on Thursday, they’ve drawn six of 11 league games and Iglesias won’t be there. Levante won here in May. We’ve weighed all of that and we still hold the home win, because three goals in five away games won’t often beat a side that has scored nine in its last five at home.

At 1.80 the price leaves room for the draw risk. We’d pass on Celta draw no bet at 1.33, which falls under our 1.45 minimum.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
