West Ham United vs West Bromwich Albion: 32 goals in 12 games, and both defeats at home
Both of West Ham’s Championship defeats this season have come at the London Stadium. The latest was last Saturday, when Southampton scored three times in the first 34 minutes and held on to win 3-2.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side haven’t won any of their last three home matches across the league and the EFL Cup, with one draw and two defeats. Away from London, they’ve won 6-0 at Lincoln and 1-0 at Swansea in the same period.
West Bromwich Albion are the next visitors, at 15:00 UK time on Saturday 31 October. They’re fifth on 21 points, one behind West Ham in third and two behind second-placed Swansea.
West Ham have scored 32 league goals, 2.7 a game, and their goal difference of +17 is the best in the division. West Brom have scored exactly half that number, 16, and conceded 13.
The recent head-to-head belongs to West Ham, who’ve won the last three league meetings. West Brom have won once at the London Stadium in the past decade.
Since 2002, league meetings at West Ham have produced four home wins, six draws and two West Brom wins. West Brom’s last ten matches have averaged 2.2 goals.
West Ham are 1.62 to win, the draw is 4.20 and West Brom 4.75. Over 2.5 goals is also 1.62.
West Ham United: the division’s best attack, but a defence short of Mavropanos
West Ham’s last six league games read 6-0 against Wrexham, 2-2 at Millwall, 1-1 against QPR, 6-0 at Lincoln, 1-0 at Swansea and 2-3 against Southampton. Twelve goals came in two of those matches.
Over their last ten games in all competitions, West Ham have averaged three goals scored and 1.3 conceded, and they’ve scored in every one of them. Their matches have averaged 4.3 goals.
The Southampton defeat exposed the back line. Kuryu Matsuki, James Bree and Lewis Dobbin all scored before half-time, and Konstantinos Mavropanos has since picked up a knee injury.
That could hand teenager Airidas Golambeckis only his second league start of the season. Keiber Lamadrid, signed this year from Deportivo La Guaira, is out with a muscular problem.
Oliver Scarles, Tomas Soucek and Joel Piroe are all pushing for starts. Piroe and Castellanos together up front would give Nuno two centre-forwards against a West Brom back four without its first-choice right-back.
I’d rate the London Stadium record as a blip more than a trend. West Ham’s expected goals against over their last ten matches is 1.25 a game, close to their actual figure.

West Bromwich Albion: behind first in six straight games, and still unbeaten in four
West Brom have conceded the first goal in six consecutive matches. They’ve still taken 11 points from the eight games this season in which they fell behind, which explains how they’re fifth.
James Morrison’s side drew 1-1 with QPR, lost 1-0 at Wolves and 1-0 at home to Birmingham, then won 2-1 at Wrexham and 3-2 against Blackburn. Last weekend Jimmy-Jay Morgan scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Preston.
Morgan and Aune Heggebo both started that game on the bench and could come back in. Barney Stewart and Felix Horn Myhre are the likely players to drop out.
Two injuries hurt the squad. Noah Galves is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, which leaves Morrison short at right-back, and Toby Collyer will miss up to six weeks with a hamstring problem.
Isaac Price has chipped in from midfield, and Morgan has up to four Championship goals. Heggebo gives Morrison a second striker if he wants to match West Ham’s two up front.
West Brom’s attack averages 1.3 goals a game. Over their last ten matches they’ve failed to score in two and kept two clean sheets.
The two derby defeats, 1-0 at Wolves and 1-0 against Birmingham, were the only games in that run where they didn’t score at least once.
Probable lineup West Ham United: Hermansen; Walker-Peters, Golambeckis, Kilman, Scarles; Bowen, Mukasa, Engels, Solomon; Castellanos, Piroe
Probable lineup West Bromwich Albion: O’Leary; Pereira, Mepham, Campbell, Styles; Nzingoula, Molumby, Diakite, Price; Morgan, Heggebo

Our prediction: West Ham United to win (odds 1.62)
West Ham have scored twice as many league goals as West Brom, and West Brom have fallen behind in six straight games. Against an attack that has put six past two different sides this autumn, conceding first is a bigger problem than it was against Preston or Wrexham.
The home form and the Mavropanos injury are the reasons for caution. But West Ham have won the last three league meetings, and West Brom have one win at the London Stadium in ten years.
Away from home over their last ten, West Brom have averaged one goal scored and 1.2 conceded. That’s a side that needs the game to stay tight, and West Ham haven’t failed to score in any of their last ten.
I’d back West Ham at 1.62. Their scoring rate is the best in the Championship, and a West Brom side without Galves and Collyer is unlikely to keep it quiet for 90 minutes.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
