Villarreal vs Real Betis : no wins in four for the Yellow Submarine, nine points for the Andalusians 
Villarreal sit 17th in La Liga with two points from four games. Two draws, two defeats, and still no win for a side that was supposed to be eyeing Europe this summer.
Real Betis arrive with nine points and a spot in the top four. On Monday 14 September at 21:00, the Estadio de la Ceramica wraps up this fifth round of fixtures.
Recent form only widens the gap. The Andalusians beat Real Madrid 1-0 on 4 September thanks to a Troy Parrott goal in the 81st minute, then pulled off a 3-2 win at Lille in their Champions League opener on 8 September.
Villarreal, meanwhile, keep stacking up the misery: a 1-0 defeat in Vitoria against Alaves, a 3-2 home loss to Deportivo La Coruna, then a 3-1 beating in Dortmund last Tuesday in the Champions League. Three straight defeats in all competitions.
Iñigo Perez’s side can still score, though: six goals in four league games, two of them from Nicolas Pepe. The issue is at the back, where they have shipped eight over the same spell.
Manuel Pellegrini, for his part, brings a team whose attacking output is oddly modest for a side sitting fourth in the table: five scored, five conceded. Betis usually win tight, which makes this a bit more nuanced than a simple clash between a team in trouble and one on a roll.
One stat sums up Villarreal’s fragility: 53 shots conceded in four league matches, 24 of them on target. Very few teams allow that kind of pressure.
Villarreal have also won two penalties so far this season, while Betis have had none. Their attacking tally has been built entirely in open play.

Two points from 12 is Villarreal’s worst start in years. Yet the club has still managed 61 shots in four league matches, 24 of them on target, which hardly screams a side that has gone missing.
The 3-2 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna on 5 September summed up their season in one match. Nicolas Pepe had put them ahead in the 19th minute before Luismi Cruz, Zakaria Eddahchouri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned it around late on.
That day, an Adama Traore own goal in the 76th minute made it look like Villarreal had things under control. The final 20 minutes blew that theory apart, and that is exactly the pattern repeating itself.
At the Ceramica, the return has been poor: two goals scored and three conceded in home games, from just five shots on target. The Castellon crowd has not seen a win yet this season.
Nicolas Pepe leads the line with his two goals and remains the most used attacking player, with 334 minutes under his belt. Gerard Moreno and Georges Mikautadze complete an attack that looks decent on paper.
There are also two injury concerns. Juan Foyth has been dealing with Achilles pain since 28 August and Carlos Romero has been troubled since 5 September, with both still up in the air four days out from kick-off.
The contrast between output and results is brutal: 29 corners won, 17 conceded, and still no victory. This is a side creating chances and wasting them.
The Ceramica has lost some of its old bite. Just eight shots conceded in home matches suggests the problem is not a barrage from opponents, but a chronic lack of cutting edge.

Real Betis: narrow wins, but a real edge is building 
Three wins and one defeat in four league matches, good for nine points in the table. Betis have actually scored fewer goals than Villarreal, five to six, which says plenty about the relative efficiency of both sides.
The 1-0 win over Real Madrid caught the eye. Troy Parrott found the breakthrough in the 81st minute, handing the Sevillans their first win of the season against the Madrid giants and inflicting Los Blancos’ only defeat.
The only blot on the record came on 29 August: a heavy 5-2 loss at Ciutat de Valencia against Levante. Marc Bartra and Rodrigo Riquelme scored, but the back line completely fell apart that night.
The trip to Lille last Tuesday showed another side to them, with a hard-fought 3-2 win to open their Champions League league phase. To go and win at the Ligue 1 leaders four days after beating Real Madrid is the sort of run that builds momentum.
Away from home, the league record is still mixed: three goals scored, five conceded. Antony is the most used player in the squad with 346 minutes, ahead of an Isco still limited to 180 for now.
There are two issues in the treatment room. Diego Llorente has had a broken nose since 4 September and Aitor Ruibal, after meniscus surgery on 14 May, remains doubtful, while Abde Ezzalzouli is available again after a viral illness on 3 September.
Betis have committed 38 fouls and have been fouled 42 times, the profile of a side that breaks up play without overexposing itself. Pellegrini has always liked that sort of control.
The schedule is still heavy, though. This Monday night trip after the return from Lille demands rotation, and the Chilean will need to get that balance right.

Villarreal have not won any of their four league games and are coming off three straight defeats, the latest in Dortmund. A side conceding eight goals in four matches and scoring only two at home does not exactly scream favourite.
Betis, on the other hand, are fresh from beating Real Madrid and winning 3-2 at Lille in the Champions League. Pellegrini’s men have lost only once in La Liga this season, that night their defence cracked at Levante.
The call is clear: the Sevillans should leave the Ceramica with at least a point. We are backing double chance X2.
One last factor matters here: both teams played Champions League football on the same night. One came away with a win, the other with a third defeat in a row.
