Leeds United and Newcastle United both have five points after three Premier League rounds. Same record, exactly: one win, two draws, no defeats.
The difference is in the style. Newcastle have scored six and conceded four, while Leeds have netted three and let in two.

The Magpies sit seventh, the Peacocks ninth, with only goal difference separating them. Chelsea, in fourth, are just one point ahead.
Leeds are still unbeaten this season, which is no small feat given the opening run. The Peacocks won at Nottingham and took a point at Brighton.
Newcastle, though, have picked up an annoying habit: the Magpies have drawn 2-2 in both of their home games, against Liverpool and Bournemouth. Their only win came away from home.
The odds point to a tight contest, with Leeds priced at 2.40 and the draw at 3.40. The goal line is set at 2.5, which leaves both outcomes very much in play.

Leeds opened their campaign with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest. One goal was enough that day, and the defence did the rest.
The home meeting with Brentford ended 1-1, the first points dropped on home turf. That script was repeated at the Amex with another 1-1 against Brighton.
Three games, three goals, one per match: the attack has been steady, but hardly explosive. Leeds don’t exactly light the place up.
Two goals conceded in three rounds put Leeds among the league’s most reliable defences. Only Hull City, Arsenal, Manchester City and Brentford have matched or bettered that.
That discipline explains a big chunk of the five points they have collected. No game has slipped out of control, even against opponents with more depth on paper.
The downside is obvious: scoring just once a game makes it hard to win tight matches. Against Newcastle, they’ll probably need more than that.
One goal a match, but never none: Leeds have found the net in all three outings. Not many mid-table sides can say the same.

The trip to Tottenham brought their only win so far, a clean 2-0 that needed no debate. It’s been Newcastle’s best performance since the restart.
Back at home, they drew 2-2 again, this time against Bournemouth. Two home games, two identical scorelines, two more goals conceded.
Six goals in three games make Newcastle one of the most productive attacks in the upper half of the table. The Magpies have scored in every match they’ve played.
Four conceded in the same spell tell the other side of the story. Newcastle still haven’t kept a clean sheet this season.
A Monday night visit to Elland Road, in front of a loud crowd, is exactly the sort of game where that weakness can hurt. That’s the big question mark before kick-off.
Six goals in three rounds put Newcastle among the league’s better attacks. Only Chelsea, Brighton and the two Manchester clubs have done better.
The four goals conceded are also, alongside Liverpool, the highest total among the unbeaten teams. That’s the glaring flaw heading into this trip.
