USA Perpignan vs Castres Olympique: one side fought back from 20 down, the other just kept control
Perpignan put up 20 second-half points at Jean-Bouin and still came away with nothing more than a defensive bonus point. Castres never lost control and banked the full four.
The game takes place on Saturday 12 September at 16:35, as part of the afternoon multi-game slot. Canal+ and Canal+ Live will show round two.
USA Perpignan sit ninth in the table after their 28-26 defeat at Stade Francais. Two points was all that separated the Catalans from a shock in Paris.
Castres are second with four points, earned in their 29-20 win over RC Vannes. The Tarn club produced one of the most polished starts of the opening round.
These two know each other well, living in the same region and facing off every season. That close proximity gives this fixture a bit more bite.
Perpignan are at home and need to turn that strong second half in Paris into points on the board. That is the whole point of this trip to Aime-Giral.
USA Perpignan showed two different sides in Paris
Perpignan lost 28-26 at Stade Jean-Bouin on opening weekend. The Catalan club left with a defensive bonus point.
The first half was a nightmare, with four tries conceded and a 28-6 deficit at the break. The visitors also finished the half down to 14 men.
The response was immediate after the interval. Perpignan’s first try came in the 42nd minute, while they were still a man short.
Twenty points in 40 minutes against a Paris side chasing the title is no small thing. Perpignan only just missed the heist.
New Zealand winger Sevu Reece is one of the players who gives this attack another gear. His presence changes how defences have to read the flanks.
Ninth in the standings, USAP are back at home and know a bonus point will not be enough over the long haul. Aime-Giral has to bring in four points.
Try it for $0.99.
Castres Olympique made a clean start
Castres beat RC Vannes 29-20 at Stade Pierre-Fabre. The Tarn club took control as early as the fourth minute through a Le Brun penalty.
The penalty try awarded in the 31st minute, following a yellow card for Medrano, swung the first half. Castres were 17-6 up at the break.
The second half backed that up, with tries from Goodhue in the 37th minute and Durand in the 44th. Van’verberghe added a fourth try in the 59th minute.
Vannes hit back late through Stevenson and Sanerivi, but they never really threatened the home side. Castres never looked rattled.
It all happened on a poor pitch and in sweltering heat, conditions that did not throw the team off course. That ability to adapt remains a hallmark.
Second in the table, Castres now head to a regional rival looking for payback. The setting will be very different from Pierre-Fabre.

Rugby Prediction USA Perpignan vs Castres Olympique
Our prediction: Castres Olympique +6 handicap
Castres were the sharper side on opening day, controlling their match from the fourth minute to the final whistle. Perpignan, by contrast, had to chase a 22-point gap at the break.
Aime-Giral makes a straight Castres win less certain, with USAP showing in Paris that they can stay in a game to the end. The handicap, then, is the safer play on the Tarn side.
Castres should keep this close, maybe even nick it. The bet is the +6 handicap in Castres Olympique’s favour.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our free tips
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. At some point, you will.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Keep stakes small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need for daily life. And above all, do not chase losses. That usually ends badly.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, annoying you or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, talk to a specialist service. That is what it is there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, no matter how good the analysis is.
- Important reminder: betting is not allowed for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can go off the rails fast, with money losses, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our tips are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information moves on
A tip is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like USA Perpignan’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, make sure wagering is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
