Forty years old, and still standing in New York
Gael Monfils turned 40 during the first round. He won it anyway. That buys him a night session on Louis Armstrong Stadium against Learner Tien, the No. 14 seed, who already handled him in Montreal a month ago across three tight sets.
Monfils has said he will retire at the end of the season. So the maths here are brutal and simple: lose tonight, and the Grand Slam chapter of a 20-year career is finished. There is no next tournament to fix it in.

Not before 7pm, which means anyone’s guess
The match opens the night session. Official listing says not before 7pm New York time, or 1am in France, overnight from Thursday 3 to Friday 4 September. That “not before” does a lot of work. Players get called out once the earlier courts empty and the warm-up routine is done, not when a schedule says so.
Eurosport has it all, and nobody else has any of it
Free-to-air viewers are out of luck this year. Eurosport owns the US Open rights and spreads the coverage across Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2 and the Eurosport 360 feeds, switching between them depending on how many courts are live at once. Two streaming routes exist: the HBO Max Sport option, or the CANAL+ platform for subscribers who get the group channels through it.
