Union Bordeaux-Begles vs Racing 92 : UBB aim to start at home the right way!
Union Bordeaux-Begles host Racing to kick off the 2026/2027 Top 14 season.
Kick-off is set for Saturday, September 5 at 9:15 pm, as the night closes out the Saturday multiplex. Canal+ will broadcast the game.
Last season’s records explain part of the gap. UBB finished with the 7th-best home record in the Top 14, winning nine and losing four, while Racing posted the 8th-best away record with four wins, one draw and eight defeats.
The Parisians’ build-up adds another layer of uncertainty. Racing 92 played just one pre-season friendly this summer, a defeat to Brive on August 21.
That friendly also left a disciplinary mess. Wame Naituvi picked up a five-week ban for a deliberate kick, ruling the Fijian winger out until mid-October.
Bordeaux, meanwhile, know the schedule leaves no room for excuses. Round 2 sends UBB to Ernest-Wallon to face French champions Toulouse.
Racing 92 will have to wait before getting their Fijian winger back. Wame Naituvi is due to return in mid-October, against Toulon.
The two clubs will meet again in very different circumstances later in the season. The schedule has Toulouse v Racing 92 in Round 11 and Bordeaux-Begles v Toulouse in Round 20.
UBB want to lay down an early marker at home
Nine wins and four defeats at home last season: Bordeaux were solid, if not spectacular. That 7th-place finish still leaves plenty of room for improvement.
The 1.20 odds mainly reflect the difference in squad strength. The bookmakers have UBB well clear of their opponents on the night.
The schedule only sharpens the pressure on this home opener. With a trip to Toulouse waiting next week, the Girondins know the points need collecting now.
Being in the Saturday night finale brings another edge. Bordeaux will know every other result from the round before they step onto the field, which leaves the target crystal clear.
The attacking bonus point is the aim. Against a side missing several key men, UBB have every right to target a comfortable margin rather than simply getting over the line.
The danger is the usual start-of-season rust. Round 1 is Round 1, and both sides are still trying to sharpen the basics.
The opening round is always its own beast in a season. Home teams often have the edge in cohesion over travelling sides.
The regular season runs all the way to June 5, 2027. The Girondins finish against Castres on the final day.
Try it for $0.99.
Racing 92 arrive with a depleted squad
Four wins, one draw and eight defeats away from home last season: Racing struggle on the road. That 8th-place away record carries plenty of weight before the trip to Bordeaux.
Wame Naituvi’s suspension only makes things harder. The disciplinary panel ruled the kick against Brive as moderately dangerous, then added an extra week because of his past record.
The Fijian’s file is already crowded. Since the start of his professional career in 2017, he has collected eight yellow cards and two reds.
Wing is now a problem area. In their only friendly of the summer, just three wingers were named in the squad: Naituvi, Josaia Ralulu and Salestino Ravutaumada.
The alternatives are far from clear. Wilfried Hulleu is back from a shoulder injury picked up in last season’s play-offs, Max Spring was hurt with France, and neither Vinaya Habosi nor Josua Tuisvoa featured in the friendly.
Racing’s back line is not the only area under strain. Leo Carbonneau is out for much of the season, and the club has opted to lean on Maxime Machenaud and their youngsters rather than dip into the market.
Josaia Ralulu looks like the quickest fix on the wing. Signed this summer from Mont-de-Marsan, like Naituvi three seasons ago, the 20-year-old was given a run-out against Brive.
His profile stands out in the squad from the Paris region. Leaner than the Fijian, he has come through sevens rugby and Supersevens with Monaco.

Rugby Prediction Union Bordeaux-Begles vs Racing 92
Our prediction: Union Bordeaux-Begles to win by more than 12.5 points
A straight Bordeaux win is priced at 1.20, which is too short to be worth a second look. The handicap is the only angle that really offers any value here.
Racing 92 head into the opener with just one friendly behind them, a defeat to Brive, a winger suspended for five weeks and a back three that looks thin. The ingredients are there for a game Bordeaux can control.
UBB to win by more than twelve points at Stade Chaban-Delmas.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our free tips
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all: do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, making you angry or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support service. That is what they are there for.
- In the end, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain terms: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what is known when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, as with Racing here, a player gets injured, the weather turns nasty… and the analysis can quickly become outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before betting, simply check that gambling is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
