Udinese vs AS Roma – Free Serie A Prediction

Udinese vs Roma: six straight defeats for the hosts, 15 league games unbeaten for the visitors Serie A

Udinese beat Roma 1-0 at the Friuli on 2 February. It’s one of only three home league wins they’ve managed against Roma since 2015, against eight Roma victories and a single draw in 12 meetings in Udine, and nothing about either side’s autumn suggests a repeat on Saturday 31 October, kick-off 17:00 UK time.

Udinese have lost their last six Serie A matches. The run started with a 2-1 home defeat to Lazio and has continued through 5-3 at Inter, 1-0 at home to Cagliari, 2-1 at Torino, 3-0 at home to Lecce and 2-0 at home to AC Milan on Sunday. They haven’t scored in the last three.

That leaves them 17th with four points from eight games, having scored nine and conceded 18. They play at Parma on Wednesday evening, in a meeting of two sides on four points, so the table will have moved by the time Roma arrive.

Roma are third with 21 points from nine games and are still unbeaten in the league: six wins, three draws, 23 goals scored and eight conceded. They haven’t lost any of their last 15 Serie A matches and have scored in 11 league games in a row.

Udinese’s home record this season is one draw and four defeats, with two goals scored and nine conceded. Roma are 1.57 to win, with the draw at 3.90 and Udinese at 5.50. I think that price undersells how wide the gap between these two sides is right now.

Udinese: two goals in five home games and a coach under pressure Udinese

Kosta Runjaic’s position is reported to be under threat, and it’s not hard to see why. Udinese were unbeaten in their first four matches of the season in all competitions, and since then the league results have fallen apart.

The home form is the worst of it. Four straight defeats at the Friuli, no goals in the last three of them, and only two scored in five home league games all season. Lecce won 3-0 there on 18 October and Milan won 2-0 on Sunday.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp is the top scorer with three league goals, and Hassane Kamara has two. Keinan Davis, who scored ten goals last season, has two assists so far, and six different players have scored for Udinese in total.

The injuries are concentrated in the back line. David Alaba is out with a calf problem, Vakoun Bayo has a thigh injury and Idrissa Gueye an ankle injury, while Oumar Solet and Alessandro Zanoli have both been carrying muscle problems. Nicolo Zaniolo returned last weekend, which gives Runjaic one more attacking option.

The likely shape is a back three of Abankwah, Kabasele and Palma or Ebosse in front of Okoye, with Vojvoda and Kamara as wing-backs. Whatever happens at Parma on Wednesday, Udinese will have had only two days’ rest before facing a side that has conceded eight goals in nine league games.

Roma: unbeaten in the league under Gasperini, and Malen already on six goals AS Roma

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side beat Cagliari 4-2 at the Olimpico on Tuesday after falling behind to an M’Bala Nzola goal on ten minutes. Emanuele Lulli and Niccolo Pisilli turned it round inside 21 minutes, and late goals from Rodrigo Mora and Donyell Malen finished it after Daniel Maldini had pulled one back.

Malen has six Serie A goals and nine in all competitions. He scored twice against Real Madrid in the Champions League, in a 4-3 defeat, and he’s the reason Roma keep scoring even when Paulo Dybala isn’t available.

Dybala has a calf strain and will be on the bench at most. Mile Svilar, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Manu Kone are all out, which means Gollini continues in goal. Bryan Cristante is back in midfield after his own spell on the sidelines.

The schedule has been heavy. Roma drew 3-3 at Napoli on Saturday, with Balerdi equalising in the 89th minute, then played Cagliari three days later. They’ve also beaten Slovan Bratislava 4-0 and Genoa 2-0 at home this month.

Away from home in the league they’ve won two and drawn two, scoring 2.3 goals per game and conceding fewer than one. The draws came at Como, 0-0, and at Napoli, and the one criticism of this side is that it hasn’t beaten a title rival yet. Udinese aren’t one.

Probable lineup Udinese: Okoye; Abankwah, Kabasele, Palma; Vojvoda, Piotrowski, Karlstrom, Kamara; Zaniolo, Davis, Ekkelenkamp
Probable lineup AS Roma: Gollini; Balerdi, Ndicka, Koulierakis; Lulli, Cristante, Pisilli, Molina; Mora, Soule; Malen

Free Serie A Prediction: Udinese vs Roma

Our prediction: Roma to win @ 1.57

Udinese have lost six league games in a row, haven’t scored in the last three and have two goals from five home matches. Roma are unbeaten in 15 Serie A games, have scored in 11 straight league matches and have the top scorer in this fixture in Malen.

The case for Udinese rests on February’s 1-0 win and on the fatigue of a Roma squad that has played every three days and is missing Svilar, Pellegrini, Kone and probably Dybala. A Udinese win at Parma on Wednesday would also lift the mood at the Friuli.

I’d still back Roma at 1.57. Udinese have scored twice in five home games, Roma concede fewer than one goal per away game, and the visitors have scored at least twice in each of their last five matches. One Roma goal may well be enough, and they rarely stop at one.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
