Forty million euros, and a bet on a winger who took the long way round
Forty million euros. That is what Arsenal have decided Christos Tzolis is worth, and the number says as much about the club as it does about the player. The Gunners confirmed the deal on Thursday, ending weeks of noise around the Greek winger. He arrives from Club Brugge on a contract that runs until 2031. He is 24. And he reaches the Emirates having earned his reputation the hard way, through a career that has almost never followed a straight line.
Mikel Arteta did not want a squad filler. He wanted a player who can tilt a game in a second, with a run, a shot, a pass nobody else saw. Tzolis fits that idea.

Arsenal watched him for a while before moving. Tzolis is coming off the finest season of his career at Club Brugge, the year the promise finally turned into product. Belgian champion, and voted the division’s best player on top of it. That second honour is not a throwaway line. It reflects how much of Brugge’s football ran through him.
The raw output backs it up. Since joining in 2024, he has played 108 games for Brugge and been directly involved in 88 goals, 43 scored and 45 created. Those are the numbers of a forward who finishes and a forward who shares.
Pace, chaos, an idea in the final third. That is the shortlist Arteta drew up, and Tzolis answers all three. He can play anywhere across the front line, which matters in a team that keeps hunting for new ways to break defences down.

Trossard is gone, and the gap needed filling fast
There was a practical reason to act now. Leandro Trossard has left for Besiktas, and that departure opened a hole in the attacking rotation. Arsenal did not sit on it.
Tzolis comes in to fight for those minutes. Do not expect him to accept a bit-part role quietly, though. His engine, his touch and the confidence he is carrying right now give him a real shot at climbing above the players ahead of him.
His age is the whole point. Arsenal keep signing footballers who are young enough to grow yet proven enough to contribute from week one, and he sits neatly in that bracket. The 2031 contract is the tell. This is a long-term asset, not a plaster over a summer problem.

There is a loop closing here. Tzolis has played in the Premier League before, at Norwich in 2021-2022, and that first attempt went nowhere. He was raw, he was learning, and he was doing it inside a side heading for relegation.
Four years later he is a different footballer.
He comes back hardened by Belgium and by his international caps for Greece, where the tally now reads 34 appearances and nine goals. His reading of the game has sharpened. His finishing has climbed. Where Norwich signed a teenager on a hunch, Arsenal are signing a man who has already carried a serious team on his back.
None of that guarantees anything. The Premier League grinds players down, the competition inside this squad is brutal, and every touch will be picked apart. Tzolis has to show the Brugge version was the real one, not a purple patch. What Arsenal are betting is that the timing, at last, has fallen his way. Third signing of the window, and a message to everyone chasing them: the champions have no intention of easing off.
