Trabzonspor vs Galatasaray: six points apart and the league leaders are missing their main striker
Galatasaray have taken 13 points from a possible 15 and sit top of the Süper Lig. Trabzonspor are ninth with seven.
So there are six points between the clubs heading into round six. But the table does a poor job of telling the full story.
The reigning champions arrive without Victor Osimhen, who picked up a groin injury against Başakşehir. The Nigerian has already missed the last two games.
Trabzonspor have just come through a messy spell: Fatih Tekke was sacked after the European exit to Ferencvaros, with former player Huysyin Cimsir brought in on an interim basis.
April is still fresh enough in the memory. Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 2-1 at Papara Park, with Paul Onuachu scoring after four minutes, Wilfried Singo levelling it up and Chibuike Nwaiwu landing the blow on 62 minutes.
Kick-off is set for Saturday 19 September at 19:00 Paris time, at Papara Park.
A leader without its centre forward, a home side that beat them here five months ago: this one looks a lot more open than the standings suggest.
Galatasaray are chasing a fifth straight league title. The Istanbul club are one point ahead of Besiktas going into the round.
Trabzonspor have not lifted the trophy for four seasons. Last term ended eight points behind the champions.
This is the sixth round of the Turkish top flight. A Trabzonspor win would cut the gap to the leaders to three points.
Trabzonspor: from 5-0 to blanks
Two wins, one draw, two defeats from five league games. Nine scored, five conceded, the seventh-best attack in Turkey.
Cimsir’s first game in charge set the tone going forward: a 5-0 thumping of Genclerbirligi, with Paul Onuachu netting twice.
The drop-off was immediate. A week later, Trabzonspor came away from Konya on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat, and barely threatened.
Mohamed Salah, signed in the 2026 summer window, carries a big chunk of the threat. The Egyptian already has four goals and one assist in the league.
Aral Simsir brings a different edge: six big chances created since the start of the season, enough to put him among the division’s leading creators.
The squad is still not at full strength. Ruslan Malinovskyi, Okay Yokuslu, Tim Jabol-Folcarelli, Arseniy Batagov and Noah Saviolo, who has a shoulder issue, are all out.
The club have not won the title for four seasons and finished eight points behind Galatasaray in May. Papara Park, though, is still a ground where the champions have slipped up.
The 4-2-3-1 used by Cimsir should stay in place. Fabinho and Ozan Tufan will screen the back four.
Onuachu’s place up front depends on his fitness. The Nigerian striker remains the focal point of everything going forward.
The change in coach has delivered only one strong display in two. The 5-0 against Genclerbirligi was followed by a goalless defeat in Konya.
Try it for $0.99.
Galatasaray keep rolling, but do it without Osimhen
Four wins and a draw to start the season for Galatasaray before this trip to Trabzonspor. Thirteen scored, six conceded, one point ahead of Besiktas.
The only points dropped came on opening day, a 2-2 draw at home to promoted Corum Belediyespor.
Since then, it’s been four wins on the spin. The latest was a slog: a 1-0 victory over Kocaelispor, sealed by captain Abdulkerim Bardakci on 71 minutes.
Away from Istanbul, the record is excellent. Two trips, two wins, seven goals scored and two conceded at Erzurumspor (4-0) and Basaksehir (3-2).
Europe offered a harsher reality check. Sporting beat the Lions 3-1 in Lisbon in the Champions League.
The injury list is a problem. Osimhen is expected back at the end of September, while Mario Lemina, Wilfried Singo and goalkeeper Guny Guvenc are also missing.
Okan Buruk is leaning on Baris Alper Yilmaz or Deniz Gul through the middle, with Rafael Leao and Leroy Sane supplying the width. Yunus Akgun has also created six big chances this season.
Buruk has already found a way without his main scorer. Deniz Gul and Baris Alper Yilmaz have shared the centre-forward role in the last two matches.
Gabriel Sara adds 2.1 expected assists, the best total in the Süper Lig. Yunus Akgun is right behind him on 2.0.
Osimhen is pencilled in for a late-September return. Galatasaray, then, have to get through this trip and the international break without their best finisher.
Expected Trabzonspor line-up: Onana; Pina, Nwaiwu, Savić, Eskihellac; Fabinho, Ozan Tufan; Salah, Muçi, Simsir; Onuachu
Expected Galatasaray line-up: Cakir; Sallai, Sanchez, Bardakci, Ismail Jakobs; Torreira, Sara; Sane, Akgun, Leao; B. A. Yilmaz
Football Prediction Trabzonspor vs Galatasaray
Our prediction: both teams to score
Trabzonspor have scored in four of their five Süper Lig matches, with nine goals in total and Salah already on four.
Galatasaray have conceded six goals in five games and have let in at least one in three of those five, including the 3-2 win at Basaksehir.
The last meeting at Papara Park ended 2-1, with both sides on the scoresheet. Nothing in the numbers points to a cagey one.
Both teams found the net in the champions’ last visit to Papara Park. Trabzonspor have also won both of their home games this season, while Galatasaray have won both away.

First, a note on our free predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. It’s an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will, sooner or later.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all, don’t chase losses; it rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job and not a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, if it gets under your skin or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what it’s there for.
- In the end, responsibility sits with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can go wrong fast, with money lost, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain terms: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team line-up changes (like Trabzonspor’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, just check that betting is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that is your responsibility, not ours.
