Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa: no goals at one end, one at the other after four rounds

Aston Villa have not done much better, with just one goal in the same stretch. That means the two clubs have managed one goal between them in eight league matches.

At full-back, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie missed the visit of Everton. Their fitness will be reassessed before Aston Villa come to town.
The schedule adds another wrinkle: Spurs were away to Anfield in the EFL Cup on Wednesday 16 September. That leaves three days to recover before this one.
De Zerbi’s task is obvious enough: find a first goal before the table starts tightening the screws.
The draw with Everton came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the same ground where Spurs now host Aston Villa. The two games are a week apart.
With zero scored and five conceded, their goal difference stands at -5. That is exactly the same as Crystal Palace in 16th, even though Palace have scored six times.

Aston Villa, one point and seven goals conceded 
Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 12 September at Villa Park. Alysson had levelled on 74 minutes before Igor Jesus struck in the 88th.
That pretty much sums up Villa’s start to the season: games slipping away in the closing stages, with just one point collected from four rounds.
Their attacking total stands at one goal. Alysson’s effort against Forest is still the club’s only Premier League goal.
At the other end, seven goals have been conceded in the same period. The -6 goal difference leaves Villa second from bottom.
They also played an EFL Cup tie at Coventry on Wednesday 16 September. That midweek trip only adds to the workload.
One thing does work in the visitors’ favour: the last meeting between the two clubs ended in a 2-1 Villa win on 3 May 2026 at Villa Park.
Across five meetings, Aston Villa have four wins and Tottenham one. That is the only decent marker available to the away side.
Aston Villa have the second-worst attack in the league with just one goal. Only Coventry, who are still blank, have done less at this stage.
Their seven goals conceded put the Villans alongside Newcastle, 12th, who have let in eight. The gap between the sides is all about what happens up front.
One point from four rounds leaves Aston Villa 19th and in the drop zone. This trip to London is one they cannot really afford to waste.
