Their week was marked by a long-awaited return after seven years away. On Thursday, Roma made their comeback in the Champions League with a tricky trip to Istanbul, ending in a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce.
At the other end, Torino are coming off their first win of the season, a hard-fought 2-1 success at Fiorentina. A result that also cost the Florence boss his job.
The record is heavily stacked against the Granata. Roma have won 14 of their last 19 Serie A meetings with Torino.
The defensive trend is even clearer: Roma have kept six clean sheets in their last nine trips to Turin. Torino, meanwhile, have conceded in each of their last eight league games.
Gian Piero Gasperini can also chase a piece of history. Including the end of last season, his side are on eight straight league wins, the fourth-best run in the club’s history.
The table gives this Monday night fixture extra weight. Roma play before Inter and can put the reigning champions under real pressure.
The two sides arrive with opposite moods. Torino turned the game around against Fiorentina after the break, while Roma had to hang on for a draw in Istanbul.
Donyell Malen is the main attacking focus. The Dutch forward already has five goals and scored against Torino on his Serie A debut back in January.
Torino: first win under Abate, but the back line still leaks 
Torino’s start was messy: a 2-1 home defeat to AC Milan, then a 2-1 loss at Sassuolo. Three points from a possible nine before Monday.
Ignazio Abate got off the mark last week in Florence. His team came from behind in the second half to beat Fiorentina 2-1.
The story hinged on two men. Rolando Mandragora, back at the club, sparked the comeback with a long-range strike before Che Adams grabbed the winner late on.
That result does not erase the Coppa Italia exit to Monza on home turf. The bigger picture still looks like a side under construction.
The real problem is glaring and stubborn. Torino have conceded at least once in each of their last eight Serie A matches, extending a trend that was already ugly last season.
Abate will be without Cesare Casadei, sidelined by a muscle injury, and almost certainly without Saul Coco, who went off before half-time in Florence with a knee issue.
Up front, the coach appears to have settled on his choice. The Che Adams and Giovanni Simeone partnership looks set to lead the Granata attack.
The schedule is not helping Torino either. Hosting the league leaders four days after a win in Florence leaves very little room to recover.
Still, there is one reason for hope in Turin. The comeback win over Fiorentina showed Abate can flip a game after the break.

AS Rome: 10 goals in three games and a flying Donyell Malen 
Four goals against Fiorentina, four at Lecce, then a 2-1 win over Atalanta: Roma have scored 10 times in three league games. Gasperini even beat his former club with a late comeback.
The numbers back up the results. Seventy-one shots attempted and only 22 allowed, a ratio that screams territorial dominance.
Donyell Malen is the main beneficiary of that supply line. The Dutch forward has already found the net five times since the start of the league campaign.
One detail makes his presence even more interesting on Monday: Malen scored on his Serie A debut in January, and it came against Torino. He has not stopped scoring since.
The draw at Fenerbahce ended the winning streak, but it did not dent the overall level. Bryan Cristante opened the scoring before the hosts equalised, and Mile Svilar kept Roma in it with a string of vital saves.
Manu Kone, withdrawn early in the second half in Istanbul, remains a doubt for this trip. Nicolò Pisilli or Marten de Roon would step in in midfield.
With the fixture list piling up, Gasperini could also rest Paulo Dybala, who remains prone to knocks despite his four assists in three league appearances. Santiago Castro is the other attacking option available.
The return to the Champions League after seven years away also changes how the squad is managed. Gasperini now has to spread minutes across two fronts.
The football itself has not changed since the restart. Three league wins from three, 10 goals scored and just one point dropped in all competitions.

Even with rotation and Kone a doubt, Roma’s squad depth is miles ahead of a Torino side still trying to find its feet under Abate. Roma should leave Turin with all three points.
