Strasbourg vs Auxerre: a home side without a clean sheet since last season
Strasbourg haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 16 Ligue 1 matches. Sunday’s visitors have scored in all eight of their league games this season.
Hugo Oliveira’s side are 16th on seven points, in the relegation play-off place, after a 3-0 defeat at Rennes last Sunday. Boulaye Dia scored just after the half-hour, Sebastian Szymanski added two more, and Strasbourg didn’t have a shot on target after the break. It was their fourth league defeat in a row.
Auxerre are 12th on ten points. Will Still’s side lost their first three league games, then took ten points from the next five with wins over Nice, Brest and Le Havre and a 1-1 draw with Le Mans last weekend.
The goal columns are identical. Both clubs have scored 12 and conceded 18, and no side in Ligue 1 has let in more. That matters more to me than the three points between them in the table.
Strasbourg have conceded five of their 18 at the Meinau. Auxerre have let in 13 of theirs on the road, so Sunday puts a leaky away record against a home side that has at least kept the scores close.
The last two meetings didn’t follow that pattern. Strasbourg won 3-0 at the Meinau in October 2025 and the game in Auxerre in March 2026 finished 0-0, so Auxerre haven’t scored against them in 180 minutes.
Kick-off at the Stade de la Meinau is 14:00 UK time on Sunday 1 November. The markets have Strasbourg as narrow favourites, which is a generous reading of a side that has lost four straight.
Strasbourg: four straight defeats and Panichelli out until December
The losing run started with a 2-1 defeat at Paris FC on 19 September. Strasbourg then lost 2-1 at Nice, 3-1 at home to PSG on 17 October and 3-0 at Rennes.
The opening weeks were better. They beat Lens 2-1 at home in August, won 6-2 at Troyes and drew 1-1 with Monaco at the Meinau on 12 September.
That Troyes afternoon accounts for half of their 12 league goals. Strasbourg have drawn a blank twice, in the 4-0 opening-night defeat at Marseille and at Rennes, and scored once in each of the three defeats in between.
At home they’ve won one, drawn one and lost one, with four scored and five conceded. Giovanni Reyna got the goal in the 3-1 against PSG, and Gessime Yassine scored twice in the opening weeks.
Panichelli is out until early December with a cruciate ligament injury, and Oliveira was already managing a thin squad before the trip to Rennes, with Godo carrying a muscle strain and several others listed as doubts.
Their away afternoons have swung from a 6-2 win at Troyes to a 4-0 defeat at Marseille and the 3-0 at Rennes, with 13 conceded in five trips.
Defeat on Sunday would leave Strasbourg six points behind Auxerre and still waiting for a league win since 6 September.

Auxerre: ten points from five games and Archer on five goals
Cameron Archer scored his fifth Ligue 1 goal of the season against Le Mans, following up on 56 minutes after Lamine Sy’s shot was pushed onto the post. The striker, on loan from Southampton, is the club’s top scorer.
Danny Namaso has three league goals, two of them in the 3-1 win at Le Havre on 18 October. Romain Faivre scored the other that day and had Auxerre’s only shot on target in the first half against Le Mans.
Still’s start was rough. Auxerre lost 5-2 at Lens on 22 August, 3-1 at home to Angers and 3-1 at Lyon, and they had no points after three rounds.
The recovery began with a 1-0 win over Nice on 12 September and a 2-1 against Brest eight days later. The only defeat since was a 4-1 at Rennes on 11 October.
Away from home they’ve won one in four: beaten at Lens, Lyon and Rennes, then winners at Le Havre. That’s seven goals scored and 13 conceded on the road.
The absences are at the back and on the flanks. Telli Siwe and Marvin Senaya aren’t expected back until after the November international break, Bryan Okoh has a knee injury that could keep him out until the New Year, and Sekou Fofana has a groin problem.
Last season Auxerre stayed out of the relegation play-off by two points. Still’s side are already three clear of 16th place this time, and a win in Alsace would make it six.

Free Ligue 1 Prediction: Strasbourg vs Auxerre
Our prediction: Both teams to score
I’d back both teams to score. Auxerre have found the net in all eight league games, including at Lens, Lyon and Rennes, and Strasbourg haven’t kept a clean sheet in 16 Ligue 1 matches.
The head-to-head is the argument against. Auxerre didn’t score in either of the last two meetings, and Strasbourg have failed to score twice this season.
Both of those blanks came away from home, at Marseille and Rennes. At the Meinau Strasbourg have scored in all three league games, and an Auxerre defence that has let in 18 in eight won’t keep them out. Auxerre conceding and scoring away from home is the most reliable pattern either side has shown this season: they’ve done both at Lens, Lyon, Rennes and Le Havre.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
