Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo : one goal in three rounds, and the Galicians are already paying for it 
Celta Vigo have scored just once since the 2026-27 La Liga season kicked off. No other side in Spain has been this blunt after three rounds.
That shortage shows up in the table too: 17th place, one point on the board. Real Sociedad sit 13th with three points, which is hardly much better.
The match is set for Thursday 3 September at 21:00 Spanish time, at the Reale Arena in San Sebastian.
The Basques come into it on the back of their first win, a hard-earned 2-1 over Espanyol after defeats away to Betis and Real Madrid.
Celta, meanwhile, have a goalless draw with Valencia and two straight losses, at Osasuna (2-1) and then at home to Athletic Club (0-2).
Recent history is heavily stacked in this fixture: Real Sociedad are unbeaten in their last eight meetings with the Galicians, with six wins and two draws.
The last time the sides met, in January, ended in a 3-1 win for the Basques, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring twice.
The long-term record points the same way: across 140 meetings, Real Sociedad have won 60 to Celta’s 43.
In San Sebastian, the gap is even bigger, with 42 Basque wins in 69 home games.
Both goal differences tell the story of the early season too: -3 for the Basques, and -3 for the Galicians as well.

Pellegrino Matarazzo has six wins, four draws and two defeats from 12 league matches at home since taking charge of the Basque side.
That record explains why the start to the season has felt so costly: the first two games were away to Sevilla and Madrid, two of the toughest trips on the calendar.
The first home game instantly changed the mood, with that 2-1 win over Espanyol getting the season moving.
Oyarzabal supplied both assists for goals by Ander Barrenetxea and Orri Oskarsson, underlining his role as the attack’s main conductor.
The numbers are still shaky, though: three goals scored, six conceded, and a -3 difference after three matches.
The injury list still includes Alvaro Odriozola, a long-term absentee, and Pablo Marin, who is struggling with his hamstrings.
Yangel Herrera and Take Kubo are both expected back in the starting XI, which makes sense with the fixture pile-up since the restart.
Matarazzo lifted the Copa del Rey last season, a trophy that sits in sharp contrast to the 10th-place finish in the league.
His first full season at the helm is about cutting that gap between cup success and league mediocrity.
Hector Fort, whose permanent move from Barcelona was completed in the 2026 summer window, is expected to join the squad.
Alex Remiro is also available despite the shoulder knock he took on Saturday against Espanyol.
The opening two defeats came away to Betis and Real Madrid, two teams now sitting in the top seven.
So this is the first properly even comparison of Matarazzo’s season.

Celta Vigo are not hitting the target, and the table says it all 
Seven shots on target in three matches: only two La Liga sides are worse than Celta in that department.
That sort of tiny output leaves no room for mistakes, and the Galicians have already made several since the season began.
Marcos Alonso’s red card at Osasuna turned a game Celta were leading into a 2-1 defeat.
The following weekend, Balaidos brought no relief: 0-2 to Athletic Club, with no real attacking reply.
The issue runs deeper than this opening burst. Since the start of last season, Celta have lost 10 of their 21 home league matches, with six wins and five draws.
Borja Iglesias is recovering from a muscle injury that kept him out of the last two squads, and his absence has hurt an already quiet attack.
Marcos Alonso is back in the back three after serving his ban, and Couhaib Driouech, signed from PSV Eindhoven in the 2026 summer window, is expected to start on the bench.
The trip to San Sebastian does not offer much comfort on the numbers either: just one win in the last six meetings in this fixture.
Celta are not a side in rebuild mode, either; they secured a second straight European place last season.
This opening run is a sharp break from the trend Claudio Giraldez had built over the previous two campaigns.
Borja Iglesias scored 14 league goals in 2025-26, which shows exactly how much his absence is hurting now.
The goalless draw at Mestalla against Valencia remains Celta’s only point since the restart.
It is also the only one of their three matches in which they did not concede.
