Hibernian vs Hearts: six points apiece and a derby to settle it 
Hibernian and Hearts both have six points after three rounds of the Scottish Premiership. That perfect dead heat gives the first Edinburgh derby of the 2026-27 season its bite.
Kick-off is on Thursday 3 September at 7.45pm UK local time, or 8.45pm in France, at Easter Road. The game has been shifted into midweek and still carries that edge you only get in a city derby.
The two clubs have just come through very different European nights. Hearts booked their place in the Conference League league phase, while Hibernian were knocked out in the previous round.
That European exit has left a mark in green and white. Leading, then being hauled back, then going ahead again at Easter Road against Gent, David Gray’s men conceded twice in the final six minutes, including Miguel Chaiwa’s own goal in the 91st minute.
Both sides responded with league wins the following weekend. Hibernian won 2-1 at Dundee, Hearts beat St Johnstone 2-1 at Tynecastle.
In the table, Hearts sit third and are ahead of their city rivals, who are fifth, on goal difference. So a win on Thursday would mean a lot more than three points for either side.
Recent history favours the Jambos, who have won three of the last four meetings. Their last trip to Hibernian in April 2026 ended in a 2-1 win.

Hibernian opened their season with a 2-0 defeat in Kosovo against FC Malisheva, then turned it round with a 4-1 win in the return leg. That split personality has summed up the club since July.
The eight games that followed back that up: four wins, two draws, two defeats in all competitions. No long run either way. Just drift, then another swing.
The European loss to Gent is the freshest wound. To be 2-1 up with 13 minutes left, then be dumped out by an own goal in the 91st minute, will have hit confidence hard.
In the league, though, things are clearer. Beaten by Motherwell on opening day, Hibs then won 2-1 at Ibrox and 2-1 at Dundee, both away from home.
That away-day edge is becoming a bit of a trademark: four straight Premiership wins on the road, their longest such run since 2020. The problem now is doing it in front of their own fans.
As for the squad, David Gray has just one absence, with Rocky Bushiri sidelined until the end of the month by an Achilles injury. He should otherwise stick with the side that started at Dundee.

Hearts: six unbeaten after a dreadful start 
Wouter Vrancken lost his first four matches in charge of Hearts. The Belgian, brought in after Derek McInnes left for Rangers, got a brutally hard welcome.
The numbers tell the story: 6-0 over two legs against Sturm Graz in Champions League qualifying, a 2-1 defeat at Aberdeen on opening day, then a 6-1 thumping at Benfica in the first leg of their Europa League tie.
The turning point came with a 4-0 rout of Dundee United on matchday two. Since then, the Jambos have gone six games unbeaten in all competitions.
That run has carried them into the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals and, more importantly, into the Conference League league phase after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Rapid Vienna.
Last weekend’s 2-1 win over St Johnstone underlined the recovery. James Wilson, 19, scored his third goal in four appearances and should lead the line again.
The injury list is still ugly, though, with five out: Ageu, Craig Halkett, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Stephen Kingsley and Tom Renaud. That leaves them short, especially at the back, ahead of a derby that rarely stays tidy for long.

Both sides have found the net in recent weeks. Hibernian have scored at least twice in each of their last three matches in all competitions, while Hearts have put four past Dundee United, two past Rapid Vienna and two past St Johnstone.
There are gaps at the back too. Hibernian conceded three against Gent in one half, and Hearts are missing five players, including Craig Halkett and Stephen Kingsley. The derby history points the same way, with a 2-1 in April 2026 and a 3-2 at Easter Road in December 2025.
Goals at both ends look the play here. Thursday night should bring them.
