PSV vs Club Brugge: Tresoldi’s October and a seven-match winning run head to Eindhoven Champions League

Nicolò Tresoldi scored two hat-tricks for Club Brugge in October: three goals in a 4-3 win at Inter on 13 October, then three more, in the 41st, 43rd and 75th minutes, in a 3-2 win over STVV on 25 October.

Brugge take that form to the Philips Stadion on Wednesday 4 November for matchday 4 of the Champions League league phase. Kick-off is 20:00 UK time.

Ivan Leko’s side have won seven straight matches in all competitions and sit 11th in the league phase on six points, after the win at Inter and a 3-0 home win over Lens. Over their last five matches they’ve scored 18 times.

PSV have four points from three games: a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk, a 1-0 defeat at RB Leipzig and a 1-0 win at Porto on 20 October. Peter Bosz’s side are third in the Eredivisie on 20 points, four behind unbeaten Feyenoord, and host bottom side Willem II on Saturday evening.

The two clubs have never met in a competitive fixture. PSV’s injury list is the longer one, with Jerdy Schouten facing around nine months out after a serious knee injury and Alassane Pléa sidelined until the end of the year.

PSV: both teams have scored in nine of their ten Eredivisie games PSV

PSV have scored 28 and conceded 13 in ten league games, and both sides have found the net in nine of them. The 1-1 draw with Feyenoord on 25 October fitted the pattern: Guus Til scored after 21 minutes and Anis Hadj Moussa equalised.

Til leads the squad with six league goals, and he also scored the 57th-minute winner in Porto. Sven Mijnans has five and is available again after a one-match ban.

That ban came from the 2-1 defeat at ADO Den Haag. Mijnans scored and was then sent off in the 43rd minute, and ADO won it in stoppage time.

The Leipzig defeat on 13 October turned on a missed penalty, with Ivan Perišić failing from the spot in the first half. Across their last five completed matches, Bosz’s side have two wins, a draw and two defeats, scoring five and conceding four.

Besides Schouten and Pléa, Paul Wanner and Adamo Nagalo are unavailable, and Ricardo Pepi has only just returned to training. Mauro Júnior and Sano are expected to start in midfield, with Til behind Mijnans in attack.

Club Brugge: seven straight wins and 18 goals in their last five matches Club Brugge

The win at Inter set the tone for Brugge’s month. Tresoldi scored three, and Romeo Vermant got the 87th-minute winner in a 4-3 victory.

Eight days later they beat Lens 3-0 in Bruges, with Hans Vanaken scoring in first-half stoppage time. Between those two European games, a 1-0 cup win over second-tier Lokeren kept the run going.

The 3-2 league win over STVV on 25 October needed a stoppage-time goal from Shogo Taniguchi after Tresoldi’s hat-trick. Brugge have conceded eight goals across their last five matches, so the defence hasn’t been airtight during the run.

Their only league-phase defeat came on matchday 1, at home to Aston Villa on 8 September. Since then they’ve taken six points from two games and scored seven goals in them.

No new injury concerns have been reported for the trip. After Eindhoven, Brugge host Liverpool on 25 November and visit Napoli on 8 December, which makes Wednesday’s points all the more valuable to Leko.

Probable lineup PSV: Kovář; Dest, Obispo, Geertruida, Kostić; Mauro Júnior, Sano; Perišić, Til, Van Bommel; Mijnans
Probable lineup Club Brugge: Not announced at time of publication

Free Champions League Prediction: PSV vs Club Brugge

Our prediction: Club Brugge or draw, double chance (odds 1.75)

We’re backing Club Brugge or the draw at 1.75. Brugge have won seven in a row, beat Inter away on 13 October and have scored 18 goals in their last five, while PSV have won two of their last five.

Til’s six league goals and PSV’s 28 in the Eredivisie count against this pick, and PSV are home favourites at 2.22. Their injury list tips it for us: Schouten, Pléa, Wanner and Nagalo are all missing, and Pepi is short of match fitness.

Both sides have scored freely, and both teams to score is priced at only 1.37. We’d rather take the double chance at a bigger price, given Brugge’s seven-match winning run.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
