Lens vs Como: 180 goalless European minutes for Lens, a club-record start for Como
Lens haven’t scored in their last two Champions League games. Sporting won 2-0 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on 13 October and Club Brugge beat them 3-0 in Belgium eight days later, leaving Yannick Cahuzac’s side 27th in the league phase on three points.
Como are the next visitors, on Wednesday 4 November in matchday 4, with kick-off at 20:00 UK time. It’s the first competitive meeting between the clubs.
Cesc Fàbregas’s side arrive fourth in Serie A with 20 points from nine games, a club record, and ninth in the league phase on six points. Their 4-1 win over Manchester United on 21 October was the standout result, with Nico Paz scoring twice.
Lens lost ground domestically on Friday night. Olivier Giroud’s 87th-minute goal gave Lille a 1-0 derby win and ended a run of three straight league wins for Cahuzac’s side, who were seventh in Ligue 1 going into the game.
Both squads have gaps. Lens are without Odsonne Édouard after adductor surgery on 28 October, while Como are missing Moise Kean until December, along with Trevoh Chalobah.
Lens: a three-game winning run ended by the derby, and Édouard out for weeks
Before Friday, Lens had won three Ligue 1 games in a row. The last was a 2-1 win over Paris FC on 24 October, where they trailed at half-time before Florian Thauvin scored one and set up Thorgan Hazard’s 83rd-minute winner.
A week earlier they beat Troyes 3-1, with Édouard and Aguilar on the scoresheet after an early own goal. Édouard won’t play again for several weeks: the club said the operation, to treat adductor pain that had troubled him since the start of the season, was a success.
Europe has gone the other way. Lens lost 2-0 at home to Sporting on 13 October, then 3-0 at Club Brugge, where Hans Vanaken scored in first-half stoppage time. Their three points came on matchday 1.
Cahuzac took over from Dino Toppmöller in September. Before the derby he named Maik Nawrocki, Ismaëlo Ganiou and Abdallah Sima alongside Édouard as absentees, with Jonathan Gradit back after missing four matches with a muscle injury.
Without Édouard, the goals have to come from elsewhere. Thauvin had a goal and an assist against Paris FC, and Hazard scored the winner in that game.

Como: four straight wins and a club-record 20 Serie A points
The 3-1 win at Torino on 27 October was Como’s fourth in a row. Jacobo Ramón equalised in the 81st minute, and Paz and Martin Baturina scored late to win it.
Before that, Anastasios Douvikas scored twice in a 2-0 win over Sassuolo, and Como won 3-1 at Fiorentina on 18 October. Douvikas is the club’s top scorer this season.
The Manchester United result came at the Sinigaglia, with Paz scoring twice in a 4-1 win. Como’s other recent European outing ended in a 3-2 defeat at Feyenoord.
The absentee list is long. Kean is out until December with a shin problem; Chalobah, Jesús Rodríguez and Assane Diao are ruled out; Marin Šverko, Bartol Franjić and Andrea Adorante remain sidelined, and Mattia Liberali and Jayden Addai are doubts.
Como host Venezia on Sunday, three days before the trip to northern France. The expected side has Jean Butez in goal, Ramón in central defence, Ricci and Milla in midfield, and Paz and Baturina behind Douvikas.
Probable lineup Lens: Not announced at time of publication
Probable lineup Como: Butez; Smolčić, Ramón, Kambwala, Kaiki; Milla, Ricci; Da Cunha, Paz, Baturina; Douvikas
Free Champions League Prediction: Lens vs Como
Our prediction: Como to win (odds 2.35)
We’re backing Como at 2.35. They’ve won four in a row, sit fourth in Serie A with a club-record points total and beat Manchester United 4-1 a fortnight ago.
Home advantage counts against this pick, and Lens had won three league games in a row before Friday. But they haven’t scored in two Champions League games, lost the derby on Friday and are now without Édouard.
Kean has been out with a shin problem, and Como have still scored 12 goals in their last four matches. For readers who prefer a goals market, over 2.5 is available at 1.54.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
