Phoenix Mercury vs Indiana Fever – WNBA Prediction – July 9, 2026

Phoenix Mercury vs Indiana Fever: the fatigue of a back-to-back could swing this one Women's National Basketball Association — Wikipedia

Phoenix and Indiana meet for the third time this season in a matchup that is particularly hard to call in the winner market. Each side has already taken one of the two meetings, and their last clash turned into a full-blown shootout, with Mercury edging it 111-109 on the Fever’s floor. This time, though, the setup is different.

Indiana heads to Arizona with barely any recovery time after last night’s loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. That back-to-back could drag on the Fever’s offensive pace, especially against a Phoenix side whose recent games have produced more controlled scores. Rather than pick a winner in what should be a very even contest, Indiana’s team total looks the better angle.

Mercury still aren’t exactly a model of consistency. Phoenix has won three of its last five and just four of its last 10 overall. The recent 77-66 loss to Chicago sums up the kind of offensive issues this team can still run into when the shots stop dropping. On the season, Phoenix scores 84.5 points per game and allows 85.1. The numbers are almost identical over the last 10, with 85.5 scored and 86.1 conceded. So Mercury aren’t blowing teams away in any one area, which goes some way to explaining why so many of their games go right down to the wire.

More than anything, the recent trend points to lower-scoring games. Six of Phoenix’s last seven have stayed under 169.5 points. Even against teams that can push the tempo, Mercury have been pretty good at keeping things within reason. That ability to slow games down matters here. Phoenix know the Fever are coming off a game the previous night and could look to make them work through longer possessions, especially in the half court.

Indiana arrives with game legs, but not much rest Indiana Fever - Wikipedia

The Fever can put up serious numbers. At nearly 94 points per game this season, Indiana’s attack is clearly ahead of Phoenix’s and has enough firepower to trouble most defences in the league. But this spot is awkward. Indiana has just played Los Angeles, falling 102-96, and now has to turn straight around for another road trip and a second game in as many days.

The under 94.5 on their team total came in last time out, and the line has naturally been trimmed for this trip to Phoenix. Even so, 87.5 still looks playable given the schedule squeeze and the slower pace of Mercury’s recent games. Fatigue can affect an offence in plenty of ways. Outside shooting can dip, transition chances dry up, and players lean more on half-court sets. In that sort of environment, Indiana can still stay in the game without hitting its usual scoring levels.

WNBA Prediction : Phoenix Mercury vs Indiana Fever

Indiana Fever: under 87.5 points

Indiana’s season scoring average naturally calls for caution. The Fever are around the 94-point mark per game and their last meeting with Phoenix produced a wild 111-109 finish. But the conditions are very different for this third meeting. Indiana is playing the second game of a back-to-back after spending plenty of energy against Los Angeles. The Fever scored 96 in that defeat, but keeping that sort of pace going with the travel and the minutes already logged could be a stretch.

At the other end, Phoenix has seen six of its last seven games stay under 169.5 points. That trend tells you Mercury games are being played at a more controlled tempo right now. To beat this individual line, Indiana will need at least 88 points despite the back-to-back.

The earlier Fever team total bet against the Sparks was already pointed toward the under and landed. The same read makes sense here, with the number adjusted but the physical spot even worse for the visitors.

Indiana has the quality to get over the line, of course, but the schedule and Phoenix’s recent game profile point us toward a dip in offensive output.

Before anything else, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. It’s an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
  • The best approach is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for everyday life. And above all: don’t chase your losses, because that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what it’s there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and isn’t going away, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money problems, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. Put simply: you can’t use them to claim anything if a bet doesn’t land.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns bad… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We can’t be held responsible for that.

Your role
