Football: OM Agree Aguerd Loan-to-Buy Switch to Real Sociedad

Marseille clear another name off the wage bill

One more out the door at Marseille. Nayef Aguerd is on his way back to Spain, with OM and Real Sociedad settling the framework of a deal overnight from Friday into Saturday, according to Foot Mercato. The Morocco defender leaves on loan first, with an option to buy attached.

The logic is money. Marseille want to lighten the wage bill and pull in cash before the window shuts, and Facundo Medina’s near-done switch to Bayer Leverkusen, worth roughly 25 million euros, runs on the same track. Aguerd is simply next.

San Sebastian gets its man back

Twenty-three million euros. That is what OM paid for Aguerd a year ago, and he turned into one of the more coveted names on their books. Gulf clubs sniffed around, Al-Sadd among them, and Stade Rennais tried their luck too before his 15 million euro release clause lapsed at the end of July.

Spain won the tug of war. The 59-cap international returns to a dressing room he knew well during his 2024/2025 loan, this time for a Europa League campaign under Pellegrino Matarazzo and alongside the reigning Copa del Rey winners.

Where it leaves both sides

For Marseille, a departure that helps the balance sheet lands at a handy moment. For the 30-year-old, it is the return he pushed for. What is left is the paperwork, turning a handshake into a signature that sticks.
