Norway vs France: top spot in Group I on the line in Boston
This is one of the standout fixtures of the final group stage round. On Friday at Gillette Stadium, just outside Boston, Norway and France go head to head for first place in Group I. The good news for both sides: they have already booked their place in the last 16. But finishing top matters for the draw. And for the neutral, this has the kind of clash people actually want to see: Erling Haaland against the French defence, with Kylian Mbappe at the other end. Should be tasty.
Norway are taking their shot
Norway are no longer a surprise package, they are a proper World Cup side. Second in the group with a +4 goal difference, they came from behind to beat Iraq 4-1, then edged Senegal 3-2 in a wild one. Their ability to score plenty is their biggest strength, but also their limitation: they have really only cut loose against sides a level below them. Against France, this is a very different test.
The engine, naturally, is Haaland. The Manchester City striker has already scored 4 goals in two matches and remains a constant threat in the box, with his power and his positioning. Around him, Martin Odegaard pulls the strings and brings the creative spark the Scandinavians have sometimes lacked. If Norway are going to nick first place, they will do it through their attack.
Likely Norway XI: Nyland; Holmgren Pedersen, Ajer, Ostigard, Bjorkan; Berge, Odegaard, Thorstvedt; Nusa, Haaland, Schjelderup.
France are ticking along and want the top spot
The French are rolling. Top of the group with a +5 goal difference, they beat Senegal 3-1 and Iraq 3-0, while conceding just once in the group stage. That sums it up nicely: efficient up front and serious at the back. Didier Deschamps, in his final campaign before handing over to Zinedine Zidane, has a squad that looks settled and deep.
Up front, Mbappe is flying: 4 goals in two games, and that left side is humming. At the back, the Upamecano-Saliba partnership looks key to keeping Haaland quiet. The real strength of this France side is the depth on the bench: even with a bit of rotation, Deschamps can still name a team built to win. They look confident, never flashy, but very clear about what they want.
Likely France XI : Maignan; Kounde, Upamecano, Saliba, T. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Kante, Rabiot; Dembele, Mbappe, Barcola.

World Cup Prediction Norway vs France
Our prediction: France to win
France are the favourites, and rightly so. The French have conceded just one goal in the group stage, and they have the defensive quality to shut down a Norway attack that has been feasting on weaker opposition. The bookmakers make France around 4/5, while the market gives them close to a 60% chance, compared with 22% for the draw and 19% for Norway.
The danger is obvious: with Haaland on the pitch, one chance can be enough. But the French squad depth should make the difference, even if Deschamps makes changes. We expect France to finish top of the group with a win here, with Mbappe still cutting through defences. For those who like goals, with both attacks on show, both teams to score would not be a crazy shout either.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We are sharing an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let us be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, nothing really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never touch money you need to live on. And above all: do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking over your day-to-day life, making you angry or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support organisation. That is what it is there for.
- At the end of the day, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can get out of hand fast (money loss, family strain, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction always depends on what we know at the time of writing. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like Norway’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, check that betting is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it enough: bet in moderation. If you struggle to keep control, do not wait to seek help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
