Northampton Saints vs Gloucester: 12 straight home league wins against the Premiership leaders Premiership Rugby

Northampton have won 12 consecutive home league matches. Gloucester arrive at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday 31 October, kick-off 17:30 UK time, top of the Premiership with 16 points from four rounds.

The Saints are fourth on 11 points after two away defeats in a row: 41-26 at Bristol and 28-7 at Leicester last weekend, a game they led 7-3 at half-time.

At Franklin’s Gardens they’ve scored 130 points in two league games this season, beating Newcastle Red Bulls 59-26 and Bath 71-48.

Gloucester beat Bath 23-5 at Kingsholm last Friday, the result that took them top. Away from home they’ve lost four of their last five league games, and this season’s trip to Leicester ended in a 38-31 defeat.

Northampton have won four of the last five meetings and did the league double over Gloucester last season. Across 41 games between the clubs, they lead 24 wins to 17.

Fin Smith is the one doubt that matters. The fly-half picked up a calf injury at Leicester and his start is in question.

Northampton Saints: 130 points in two home games, seven at Welford Road Northampton Saints

Leicester won the East Midlands derby 28-7, and Northampton scored a single try. They were 7-3 up at the break and didn’t score again.

A week earlier they lost 41-26 at Bristol. That’s 69 points conceded on two away trips, and both defeats came after a 71-48 home win over Bath that showed what this attack does at home.

The Newcastle game went the same way, 59-26. Northampton have scored 59 and 71 in their two home league games this season, and they haven’t lost at home in the league in 12 matches.

Smith’s calf is the variable. If he misses out, the Saints lose their first-choice ten against a side that held Bath to five points last Friday. Hooker Curtis Langdon said this week that the squad is concentrating on its own process at home.

The squad has been settled off the pitch. Tommy Freeman, with 118 first-team appearances, signed a new long-term contract in September, Henry Pollock agreed a new deal the same month, and loosehead Jordan Els has extended to the end of 2026-27.

Gloucester: 16 points and top spot, but four defeats in their last five league away games Gloucester Rugby

Gloucester’s win over Bath was built on defence. George Barton kicked three first-half penalties, the hosts led 9-5 at the break, and Bath scored one try all night.

They’ve won three of four league games, beating Harlequins 48-0 at Kingsholm and winning 45-24 at Exeter. Three attacking bonus points and a losing bonus at Leicester add up to their 16.

The Exeter win is the exception on the road. Gloucester have lost four of their last five away league games, including the 38-31 defeat at Leicester this season.

In Europe they drew 36-36 with Bordeaux-Bègles at Kingsholm on 16 October after leading 24-17 at half-time. Dewi Lake, signed from the Ospreys in the summer, captains the side, and George Skivington confirmed in September that Ross Byrne is staying at fly-half.

Centre Seb Atkinson has extended his contract to 2029. Gloucester have lost their last two matches against Northampton.

Free Rugby Prediction: Northampton Saints vs Gloucester

Our prediction: Northampton Saints -10.5 handicap

Twelve straight home league wins, 130 points in two home games this season and four wins from the last five meetings. Gloucester’s away record over their last five league trips is one win.

The table says Gloucester are the better side right now, and Northampton have lost their last two. If Smith is ruled out, the margin is harder to find, and I’d want to see the team sheet before adding to it.

At home, though, this Northampton side has scored 59 and 71. I’m backing the Saints to win by 11 or more at 1.91.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
