North Macedonia vs Scotland: two struggling attacks meet in Skopje
North Macedonia host Scotland on Saturday 3 October at the Tose Proeski Arena in Skopje, with kick-off at 20:45 Paris time. This is the third matchday of League B Group 1 in the Nations League.
Neither side has won yet in this campaign. North Macedonia sit last with no points, one point behind Scotland, who drew in Slovenia before losing at home to Switzerland.
The most striking number is about goals, or the lack of them. Sports Mole points out that the two teams have gone through a combined 10 games without scoring, which says a lot about the type of match we can expect.
For both coaches, the pressure is already real. Sebastien Pocognoli is looking for his first win as Scotland manager, while Goce Sedloski has yet to win or even see his team score in five matches with North Macedonia.
The group context makes this a key fixture at the bottom. Switzerland and Slovenia have pulled ahead, so the loser in Skopje could find themselves in a serious relegation fight before the November games.
The bookmakers lean towards the visitors. The Football Faithful lists Scotland at 1.73, the draw at 3.40 and North Macedonia at 4.50, with under 2.5 goals also priced at 1.73.
North Macedonia Analysis
North Macedonia opened their campaign with a 3-0 home defeat to Switzerland. They then lost 2-0 in Slovenia on Tuesday, conceding both goals after half-time.
The attacking problem has become historic. North Macedonia have now gone six games without scoring, which Sports Mole describes as a new negative national record.
Sedloski, who won 100 caps for his country as a player, is under growing pressure. The team earned promotion from League C last time, but this campaign could end badly if the goal drought continues.
There is one encouraging trend at home. North Macedonia have not suffered back-to-back home defeats since 2019, so they will see this game as a chance to restore some pride at the Tose Proeski Arena.
The squad has been hit by absences. Boban Nikolov and Ezgjan Alioski have both pulled out, with Alioski suffering a calf injury, and the Football Faithful also lists Darko Churlinov and Nikola Serafimov as unavailable.
Captain Enis Bardhi is set to win his 84th cap and has scored 20 international goals. Teenage midfielder Matej Gashtarov leads the hosts for tackles, interceptions and possession won in the group so far.

Scotland Analysis
Scotland’s campaign started with a goalless draw in Slovenia, Pocognoli’s first game in charge. On Tuesday, they lost 3-0 to Switzerland at Hampden Park after Jack Hendry was sent off early in the match.
That defeat extended a worrying run. Scotland have failed to score in four consecutive games, including blanks against Brazil and Morocco at this summer’s World Cup.
A third game without a win would make Pocognoli just the fourth Scotland manager to start with three matches without a victory. The Belgian coach knows this trip is his best chance to change the mood.
Scotland’s away form gives some reassurance. Mostly under former boss Steve Clarke, they have lost just one of their last seven away games in all competitions, keeping five clean sheets in that run.
The head-to-head is also positive. Since losing the first meeting with North Macedonia in September 2008, Scotland are unbeaten in three games against them.
Hendry is suspended, and Scott McTominay is absent. Billy Gilmour could partner Lewis Ferguson in midfield, while Andy Robertson is set to win his 100th cap as captain.
Probable lineup North Macedonia: Dimitrievski; Ilievski, Zajkov, Musliu, Alomerovic; Atanasov, Gashtarov; Mitrovski, Bardhi, Elmas; Miovski
Probable lineup Scotland: Gunn; Binks, McKenna, Welsh; Hickey, Gilmour, Ferguson, McGinn, Robertson; Bowie, McBurnie

Our prediction: Scotland to win (1.73)
North Macedonia’s six-game scoring drought is the decisive factor here. Scotland have also struggled in front of goal, but their away record is solid, with only one defeat in their last seven trips and five clean sheets.
The hosts are also without several wide and creative players, including Alioski, Churlinov and Nikolov. Scotland’s midfield of Gilmour, Ferguson and John McGinn should control the game against a depleted opponent.
Sports Mole predicts a 1-0 away win, and the Football Faithful also backs the visitors. We follow that view with Scotland to win at 1.73, expecting a tight, low-scoring match decided by a single goal.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation, that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
