Kosovo vs Austria: first against second, eight days after the first meeting
Kosovo host Austria on Sunday 4 October at Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri in Pristina, with kick-off at 18:00 Paris time. This fourth matchday of League B Group 3 is a direct battle for top spot.
Austria lead the group with seven points from three games. Kosovo are second with four points, level with the Republic of Ireland, so a home win would bring them right back into the promotion race.
The two teams met only eight days ago. Austria won that first-ever meeting 3-1 in Vienna, and they were three goals up by the hour mark before Kosovo pulled one back from the penalty spot.
Both sides dropped points on Thursday night. Kosovo drew 0-0 with Israel, while Austria needed a late equaliser from Michael Gregoritsch to rescue a draw in Dublin after trailing 2-0 to Ireland.
The context is very different in Pristina, though. Kosovo have built a reputation as a tough side to beat at home, and they have won 14 of their last 22 games according to Sports Mole.
The market sees a close contest. Austria are listed around 1.97, Kosovo at 3.20 and the draw at 4.26, a much tighter spread than the gap seen in Vienna last week.
Kosovo Analysis
Kosovo are one of the rising nations in European football. They were promoted from League C via the playoffs last time and came within 90 minutes of qualifying for their first World Cup.
Franco Foda’s team opened this campaign with a 1-0 win over Ireland, thanks to a late goal from Vedat Muriqi. They then lost 3-1 in Vienna and drew 0-0 with Israel on Thursday.
The first meeting with Austria was harsher than the score suggested in some phases. Muriqi missed an early chance and was denied twice at the start of the second half, before Edon Zhegrova converted a late penalty, as Flashscore’s match report describes.
Muriqi’s fitness is the big question this weekend. The Fenerbahce striker missed the Israel game with a muscular problem, and with 19 Nations League goal involvements, he is crucial to Kosovo’s attack.
If he cannot start, Albion Rrahmani is expected to lead the line. In goal, Arijanet Muric was forced off injured against Austria, and Amir Saipi deputised in midweek.
There is another change in the leadership group. Muriqi has been named captain after Amir Rrahmani retired from international football following a dispute with the federation.

Austria Analysis
Ralf Rangnick’s Austria reached the knockout phase of this summer’s World Cup. They have started the Nations League with the clear aim of finishing first after narrowly missing promotion last time, when they lost to Serbia in the League B playoffs.
Their first two games both ended 3-1. They beat a 10-man Israel in Linz, then dominated Kosovo in Vienna with goals from David Affengruber, Junior Adamu and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Patrick Wimmer was named Flashscore’s man of the match in that game, with an assist for Adamu’s goal. Austria have now scored eight goals in three matches in this campaign.
Thursday’s draw in Dublin showed a different side, though. Austria were two goals down before Gregoritsch, who recovered from an ankle problem, came off the bench to score the equaliser.
The squad has several absences. David Alaba was not selected, Marcel Sabitzer is taking a break from national team duty, and Paul Wanner and Nikolas Veratschnig returned to their clubs with knocks.
There is good news too. Konrad Laimer has recovered from an adductor injury, and Sunderland centre-back Kevin Danso is available again after serving a suspension.
Probable lineup Kosovo: Saipi; Dellova, I. Krasniqi, Raci; Vojvoda, Hoxha, Avdullahu, Gallapeni; Zhegrova, E. Krasniqi; A. Rrahmani
Probable lineup Austria: A. Schlager; Posch, Lienhart, Danso, Wober; Seiwald, X. Schlager; Wimmer, Laimer, Schmid; Gregoritsch

Our prediction: Austria to win (1.97)
Austria showed in Vienna that they have more quality and more depth than Kosovo. They scored three times in the first hour of that match and have already netted eight goals in three Nations League games.
Kosovo’s home record is strong, but the doubt over Muriqi and the injury to first-choice goalkeeper Muric weaken them at both ends of the pitch. Their attack also failed to score against Israel on Thursday.
Sports Mole predicts a 2-1 away win, and Austria are slight favourites in the market. We back Austria to win at 1.97, a fair price for the stronger team in the group against a side missing key players.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation, that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
