Stone takes over the third period
Vegas led 3-1 when the third period opened, and Mark Stone made sure Calgary never got close. He tapped in a backdoor feed from Jack Eichel early in the period, then backhanded home a rebound at 12:10 to make it 5-1. His third came on a wrist shot, again set up by Eichel, and the Golden Knights had a 6-1 cushion on Thursday night in Las Vegas.
It was the second regular-season hat trick of Stone’s career, and the goal that completed it was his sixth of the year, the most on the team. Matt Coronato pulled one back on the power play with 1:20 left, but the result had been settled long before.

Early goals and a short-handed double
The game tilted from the opening shift. Brett Howden scored 25 seconds in after Mitch Marner stole the puck and slid it to him. Eichel made it 2-0 midway through the first with a short-handed goal, one of his three points on the night.
Calgary answered in kind. Jake Middleton scored short-handed in the second period, his first goal as a Flame, to cut the gap to 2-1. Vegas needed 48 seconds to respond: Braeden Bowman buried an Ivan Barbashev pass on the power play. Barbashev finished with three assists, matching his career high, and Marner added two.
Carter Hart stopped 28 shots for the Golden Knights. Dustin Wolf made 27 saves for Calgary.
Where it leaves both teams
Vegas has won six of its last seven and improved to 14-2-0 all-time against Calgary in Las Vegas. The Flames are 1-6-0 and still hunting their second win of the season.
