Knights vs Eels: Newcastle look ready to back up their rise
NRL Super Saturday kicks off this week in Newcastle with the Knights taking on the Eels. And, frankly, not many would have fancied such a gap between these two at this point in the season.
On one side, Newcastle are starting to build real belief with a run of convincing wins and an attack that is finally finding its rhythm. On the other, Parramatta are stuck in a season that keeps going south, hit by injuries and a worrying lack of consistency.
On paper, the Knights come in with far more going for them.
Newcastle hit top gear at the right time
For a half against the Titans at Magic Round, Newcastle gave people a few reasons to hesitate. At 6-6 at the break, it was still wide open and the Knights were clearly still looking for their attacking groove.
Then the second half started and everything changed.
Newcastle shifted through the gears. The result was six tries and a 36-12 win that underlined just how strong they are right now.
What stands out most is how quickly this side can explode once a game loosens up a bit.
Kalyn Ponga is growing into the season, Dylan Brown is starting to settle into the attack, and the whole group looks much slicker than it did early on.
The numbers back it up: more than 10 metres per carry, seven line breaks and only 26 missed tackles. Newcastle are playing cleaner, harder football now.
With three straight wins and a fifth-place spot on the ladder, the Knights are starting to look like a genuine finals side.
The Eels are still getting hit by injuries
For Parramatta, things remain grim.
Against the Storm, they were still in it at half-time, trailing by only six. But, as has happened too often this season, it all fell apart after the break.
The final score was 34-8 and the problems were there to see in every part of the field.
The injury list is starting to bite hard. Mitch Moses is now dealing with a hamstring issue after the State of Origin camp, and the squad depth looks thinner by the week.
The big issue is their inability to hold up defensively for long stretches.
Parramatta conceded eight line breaks against Melbourne and missed 47 tackles. At that level, it is very hard to stay in touch with the teams in form.
Their attack lacks patience and control too. With just 77% of sets completed against the Storm, the Eels kept handing over possession and inviting pressure.
Jason Ryles is trying to keep the group competitive despite the injuries, but each week now feels like a survival job.
Newcastle have a real chance to keep it rolling
This looks like a clear chance for the Knights to keep building.
At home, full of confidence and with almost a full deck in attack, Newcastle have far more weapons than this battered Eels side.
Parramatta can still spark into life for a few dangerous patches, but over 80 minutes the gap in momentum looks pretty clear.
If the Knights control the ball properly and keep the intensity they have shown in recent weeks, they should put the Eels under pressure early.
Try it for $0.99.
NRL Prediction Knights vs Eels

Greg Marzhew to score a try
With the space Newcastle are creating out wide at the moment and the huge defensive problems Parramatta keep showing, Greg Marzhew could get plenty of chances close to the line.
The Knights have been playing with much more pace in their attacking sets over the past few weeks, and their wingers are cashing in on that.
in your pocket.

First, a quick note on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Above all, don’t touch money you need for everyday life. And never chase losses; it rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your life, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support service. That is what it is there for.
- At the end of the day, it’s on you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and never goes away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction always depends on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like the Parramatta Eels one, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly go stale. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your responsibility
Before you bet, check that betting is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it often enough: bet in moderation. If you are struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
