New Orleans Saints vs Cleveland Browns: a new run plan after a bye, against a tired Cleveland road trip
New Orleans fired run game coordinator T.J. Paganetti after the bye, according to a report on Monday. On 25 October the Saints had rushed 17 times for 18 yards in a 16-10 loss to Pittsburgh in Paris, and they’ve used the time since to rework the ground game before Sunday 8 November, 1:00pm ET at the Caesars Superdome on CBS.
The records point the other way. Cleveland is 5-3, third in the AFC North behind Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, while New Orleans is 2-5. The Saints have lost three one-score games, and the Paris defeat was one of them.
The Browns went to Pittsburgh on Sunday and lost 27-6. They didn’t score a touchdown, gave up eight sacks, committed 10 penalties and allowed 160 rushing yards. A week before that they’d won 27-24 in Tennessee.
This is Cleveland’s third straight road game, and it comes against a team that hasn’t played since 25 October. Cleveland leads the all-time series 13-7, but New Orleans has won the last three meetings, the most recent a 35-14 win at the Superdome in 2024.
The market opened with the Saints at -2.5 and has settled around -3. The moneyline is about 1.67 on New Orleans and 2.26 on Cleveland, with the total at 43.5.
New Orleans Saints: 23.1 points a game and an extra week to fix 18 rushing yards
Tyler Shough has 1,721 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions on 67% passing. In Paris he went 30-of-38 for 278 yards with a touchdown and a pick, and New Orleans still managed only 10 points because it couldn’t run at all.
That run game has swung wildly: 175 yards in the 34-27 win over the Giants, then 18 against Pittsburgh. Kendre Miller leads the team with 159 yards on 57 carries, and C.J. Donaldson hurt his shoulder in Paris. Travis Etienne Jr. has been on injured reserve since 1 October.
The roster has changed around that group. New Orleans claimed running back Audric Estime off waivers and terminated kicker Daniel Carlson’s contract this week, and Alvin Kamara’s receiving role stays central to what Kellen Moore wants to do.
Chris Olave has 49 catches for 636 yards and two touchdowns, and the Saints score 23.1 points a game, 15th in the league, on 315.7 total yards. That’s nearly six points a game better than Cleveland, on only 14 more yards.
The worry is turnovers, at -4 for the season, and safety Justin Reid’s concussion from the Paris game. The pass rush has 18 sacks, 14th in the league, with Chase Young and Carl Granderson as the names to watch against a line that just gave up eight.
Kellen Moore and Shough were due to speak on Wednesday, with the first Week 9 injury report to follow, so Donaldson’s shoulder and Reid’s concussion should be clearer by the weekend. The game is indoors, which removes weather from the equation for both offenses.

Cleveland Browns: 5-3 on 17.4 points a game, 29th in the league
I’m not convinced by that 5-3 record. Cleveland scores 17.4 points a game, 29th in the NFL, and gains 301.9 yards. Teams with that offense don’t usually sit two games over .500 in November, and the Browns have got there through their defense and a turnover margin of -1.
Deshaun Watson went 27-of-39 for 324 yards in Pittsburgh and his team still scored six. For the season he’s at 65.5% with 1,806 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. The yardage was there on Sunday, and the eight sacks and zero touchdowns tell the rest of it.
Harold Fannin Jr. caught 10 passes for 154 yards that day and leads the receiving group with 35 catches for 411 yards and three scores. Quinshon Judkins has 342 rushing yards on 101 carries, just 3.4 a carry, with three touchdowns.
The defense has 21 sacks, eighth in the league, and six interceptions, with Myles Garrett at the front of it. It also gave up two first-half touchdowns and 160 rushing yards in Pittsburgh, and it faces a Saints line that’s had two weeks to work on protection and run fits.
Tackle Tytus Howard went into the concussion protocol, while cornerback Myles Harden (hamstring) and safety Daniel Thomas (ankle) were on the last injury report. A line missing Howard after eight sacks would be a real concern in a noisy dome.

Our prediction: New Orleans Saints to win (1.67)
I’d back the Saints on the moneyline at 1.67. They’ve had 14 days between games, Cleveland is on its third straight road trip, and New Orleans scores 5.7 points a game more than a team that just failed to reach the end zone.
Garrett and that 21-sack front can ruin a game for a quarterback, and the Saints’ record is 2-5 for a reason. I still prefer the home team that’s had two weeks to prepare, and it has won the last three in this series.
A field goal would decide the spread if the line stays at -3, so the moneyline is the cleaner way in. Watson’s line in Pittsburgh came with no touchdowns, and that’s the offense New Orleans is facing.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
