New England Revolution vs Inter Miami: second seed on the line in Foxborough

New England go into the last weekend of the MLS regular season second in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of Inter Miami. The two meet at Gillette Stadium on Sunday 1 November, kick-off 7pm ET (midnight UK time), and the result decides which of them takes the second seed into the playoffs.

The arithmetic is simple for Marko Mitrovic’s side. A win guarantees New England second place, and because they hold the tiebreaker with three more wins than Miami, even a draw keeps them ahead. Miami can only finish above them by winning and overtaking them on points.

A win would also take the Revolution past 60 points for only the second time in the club’s history. The record is 73, set in 2021, one short of the league-wide mark of 74 that Miami set in 2024.

New England arrive on four straight wins, the latest 3-2 against the New York Red Bulls in midweek. That run followed two heavy defeats, 3-0 at Real Salt Lake and 3-0 at home to Seattle, so the form line has swung sharply in a few weeks.

Miami, the reigning MLS Cup champions, drew 2-2 with FC Cincinnati on Wednesday. Kily Gonzalez’s side are unbeaten in their last five league meetings with New England, and they’ve won on each of their last two visits to Gillette Stadium.

The prices lean slightly towards the away side: Miami 2.36, the draw 4.00 and New England 2.63. I think that’s the right way round, and the head-to-head is the main reason.

New England Revolution: four wins in a row, and Gil’s 100th assist New England Revolution

Carles Gil became only the eighth player in MLS history to reach 100 regular-season assists this season, and he’s still the player New England’s attack runs through. He’s also one of only two Revolution players to have started all three of the recently recorded meetings with Miami.

The winning run has been built on narrow results. New England won 3-2 at Cincinnati, 1-0 against Chicago, 2-1 at Philadelphia and 3-2 against the Red Bulls, which adds up to nine goals scored and six conceded across the four games.

Dor Turgeman scored twice against the Red Bulls and Daniel Gazdag got the winner. Those two, with Langoni, are the expected front three, and they’ll be supplied by Gil from the right of a midfield three with Polster and Yueill.

The squad is short in a few places. Alhassan Yusuf has a hamstring strain and is likely to miss out, Jack Harrison is doubtful with a sore quad, and Leonardo Campana is unlikely to play because of a lower-body injury. Fofana and Sands are also listed as doubts.

If Fofana misses out, it’s a notable loss for this fixture in particular. He’s the other Revolution player to have started all three recent meetings with Miami, and his absence would add to the gaps left by Yusuf and Campana.

The worry for New England is what happened in the last few meetings. They lost 4-1 in Miami in October 2025 and 6-2 there in October 2024, and at home they were beaten 2-1 in July 2025 and 4-1 in April 2024.

Inter Miami: Messi’s 25 goals and two straight wins at Gillette Inter Miami

Lionel Messi leads MLS with 25 goals, but he’s gone two matches without a goal or an assist. That quiet spell has coincided with Miami’s least convincing week, a 2-0 defeat at the Red Bulls followed by the 2-2 draw with Cincinnati.

Before that, the form was strong. Miami beat D.C. United 4-0 and NYCFC 2-0 at home and won 3-1 at Atlanta, and across their last five league games they’ve scored 11 and conceded five.

Luis Suarez and Riquelme Fillipi scored against Cincinnati, and Suarez and Berterame are expected to start either side of Messi. De Paul, Ayala and Morales make up the probable midfield, with Casemiro in the back line.

The one statistic that complicates the picture is Miami’s habit of letting leads slip. They’ve failed to win four league matches this season after scoring first, which has cost them nine points. All four of New England’s recent wins were decided by a single goal, so a Miami lead won’t necessarily settle it.

Gonzalez is without Tadeo Allende, who has a knee injury, and Israel Boatwright, who’s out with a cruciate ligament tear. Mateo Silvetti is still dealing with a shoulder problem, and Caicedo is also listed out.

Miami could also reach double figures for away wins in a season for only the second time; they managed 11 in 2024. Against this opponent, on this ground, they’ve won 2-1 and 4-1 on their last two visits.

Probable lineup New England Revolution: Turner; Feingold, Kohler, Wynder, Miller; Gil, Polster, Yueill; Langoni, Turgeman, Gazdag
Probable lineup Inter Miami: St. Clair; Lujan, Casemiro, Micael, Fray; De Paul, Ayala, Morales; Messi, Suarez, Berterame

Our prediction: Inter Miami to win at 2.36

Miami haven’t lost in their last five league meetings with New England, and they’ve won the last two at Gillette Stadium by a combined score of 6-2. New England’s winning run has come with six goals conceded in four games, against an attack led by the league’s top scorer.

New England’s four straight wins and the fact that a draw suits them are the strongest points against this pick. Their run, though, has been made of one-goal margins, and the two 3-0 defeats just before it show how this defence can be exposed by quality going forward.

Miami need the win and have the players to get it. I’m backing Inter Miami to win at 2.36.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
