Thirty-five points, and the last four came from the line
Natasha Cloud picked a good night for the best game of her career. Thirty-five points, nine rebounds, a season high on the glass, and a 93-86 Chicago win over New York.
Nothing about it was comfortable. Level at 32-32 midway through the second, the Sky reeled off 11 unanswered to lead 43-32. Cloud had six in that stretch, Courtney Vandersloot five. Chicago went to the break up 54-43.
New York kept coming. With 2:09 on the clock, Marine Johannes hit a three off a Breanna Stewart steal and the Liberty led 84-83.

The point guard took it from there
Cloud tied it at the line. Then she pulled up from mid-range for 86-84 with 1:17 to play.
Stewart stripped her on the next possession to make it 88-84, then missed a layup through traffic with 15.9 seconds left. Cloud closed it out from the stripe. Chicago finished on a 10-2 run.
Kamilla Cardoso logged her 13th double-double of the year, 17 points and 12 boards. Azura Stevens had 12 on 5-of-9, her first double-figure game since the 20 she put up in Atlanta on 19 July.
Stewart got to 3,000 faster than anyone ever has
The Liberty lost and still made history. Breanna Stewart went past 3,000 points in New York colors in her 145th game for the franchise, quicker than any player in WNBA history has reached that mark with a single team. She led all scorers for her side with 22, eight of them in the opening quarter.
Sabrina Ionescu returned from a left foot injury with 18 points and a season-best 12 assists. Rebecca Allen added 14, three of her makes from deep pulling New York back to within five in the third.
What sank them was ball security: 12 of their 17 turnovers came before halftime. Jonquel Jones did not last past the first quarter after rolling her left ankle.
