Nashville Predators vs New York Islanders: six past Sorokin in Dallas, and four Islanders on the injury list
Dallas scored six on Ilya Sorokin on Sunday. The Islanders goaltender stopped 32 of 38 shots in a 6-3 defeat that ended New York’s five-game point streak, and Jason Robertson scored twice, the first of them less than a minute after the Islanders had drawn level in the opening period.
Two nights later the Islanders are in Nashville for the first meeting of the season between the clubs, on Tuesday 27 October with puck drop at 8pm ET.
Nashville’s Sunday went the other way. Ryan O’Reilly scored twice in a 6-2 home win over Colorado, and the Predators moved to 4-3-4, with four defeats after regulation explaining how a side with only three regulation losses has 12 points from 11 games.
New York are 5-4-2, with 32 goals scored and 28 conceded. They’re 1-2-1 on the road and arrive without Mathew Barzal (knee), Matias Maccelli (lower body), Calum Ritchie (lower body) and Alexander Romanov (ACL).
Nashville’s only listed absentee is William Trudeau, with an upper-body injury. We think that difference in available personnel is what separates the two sides on Tuesday.
Nashville Predators: 2-0-1 when they score three, and four games lost after 60 minutes
O’Reilly’s two goals led the scoring in Sunday’s 6-2 win over the Avalanche. Nashville’s recent weeks have also included a 5-2 win over St. Louis and a 6-0 defeat in Boston.
The Predators are 2-2-1 at home. When they’ve scored three goals or more, they’re 2-0-1 and haven’t lost in regulation.
Four of their 11 games have been lost in overtime or a shootout, more than a third of their schedule. Only three have ended in a regulation defeat.
The defensive numbers are the concern. Nashville have allowed close to 30 shots a game in the recent sample, though their power play has converted at a better rate than New York’s.
Trudeau’s absence is the only change to the roster through injury. Head-to-head form doesn’t offer much here, since Tuesday is the first meeting of the season.

New York Islanders: 1-2-1 on the road, and a point streak ended by three third-period goals
Before Dallas, the Islanders had won 4-1 in Toronto and 3-2 at home to Anaheim. Both results were part of the five-game point streak that finished on Sunday.
New York stayed in the game in Dallas for 40 minutes. Matthew Schaefer scored at four-on-four at 13:43 of the first period, Kyle Palmieri banked in a Ryan Pulock miss off the boards early in the second, and Brayden Schenn finished an Anthony Duclair pass at 17:45 of the second.
The third period cost them the game. Johnston, Robertson with his second and Mikko Rantanen all scored for Dallas, and Schenn’s turnover had already led to Robertson’s first goal.
Across the season the Islanders have conceded 28 goals in 11 games, about 2.5 a night. Their penalty kill has worked in the high eighties, which is the strongest part of their game so far.
The injury list is long. Barzal, Maccelli, Ritchie and Romanov are all out, and New York have one road win from four attempts this season.

Our prediction: Nashville Predators moneyline (overtime included)
Nashville are at home with a near-full roster against an Islanders side missing four players and coming off a six-goal defeat. The Predators scored six against Colorado and five against St. Louis in recent wins, and when they reach three goals they haven’t lost in regulation this season.
The Islanders’ penalty kill and their 32-28 goal difference are the reasons we wouldn’t want a puck line here. Nashville’s four overtime defeats also show how often their games go the distance, which is why we’re including overtime in the pick.
Prices hadn’t been posted at the time of writing. We’d play Nashville on the moneyline at 1.80 or longer, and we’d look elsewhere if the price drops below 1.60.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
