Colorado head to Wisconsin in a very different place. The Rockies come in off a heavy 8-0 loss and are still paying for the limitations of their rotation. The bats can flash now and then, but they do not always make up for the problems on the mound, especially away from Coors Field.

Milwaukee Brewers : an attack that wears pitchers down

The Brewers may not be the biggest home-run side around, but they find plenty of other ways to break teams open. They get on base, force mistakes and make pitchers work under pressure.

That formula has already hurt Colorado this season. The three meetings so far have all gone Milwaukee’s way, with the Brewers putting up nine, seven and then twelve runs. Time and again, they have found answers against Rockies pitching.

Shane Drohan gets the start for the Milwaukee Brewers. The left-hander has put together a convincing season and looks far more trustworthy than his opposite number here. Nothing flashy, just solid work that usually keeps the damage down and gives his side a chance to build the game properly.

Colorado Rockies : finding a way to stay in the fight

The Rockies know they will need a serious uptick if they are going to hang with one of the best teams in the National League. Their last outing again exposed the problems in the pitching staff, with the game slipping away late.

Tomoyuki Sugano has a winning record, but that only tells part of the story. His 4,76 ERA and low strikeout total suggest he leans heavily on his defence. Against a patient lineup like Milwaukee, that can become a problem in a hurry.

Colorado do at least have a few offensive cards to play. The Rockies scored twelve runs across three games against the Milwaukee Brewers in their earlier series this season and will try to make the most of any scraps Drohan leaves behind.

This line looks reachable given what these two sides have done against each other lately. The first three meetings between Milwaukee and Colorado finished with totals of sixteen, eight and then sixteen again, a sign that both lineups have found ways to do damage in this matchup.

Milwaukee have already shown they can rough up the Rockies’ pitching. The Brewers scored at least seven runs in each of those three games and now face a starter whose profile looks made for them. Sugano allows plenty of balls in play, which can quickly become a problem against a disciplined batting order.

Colorado can play a part in the total too. They are still capable of putting together a few useful innings against a left-handed starter, and if Milwaukee keep swinging the bats the way they usually do, the eight-run mark should be there by the end.
