Championship: Boro hit Bolton for five to go top

Lankshear leads the rout

Middlesbrough went to Bolton on Friday night and came home top of the Championship. The 5-1 win was built on goals from Aidan Morris in the 13th minute and Will Lankshear in the 31st, and a Lewis Brunt own goal on 39 from an Adilson Malanda header made it three before the break.

Theo Bair pulled one back for Bolton in first-half stoppage time, but Amario Cozier-Duberry restored the margin in the 73rd minute. Lankshear then added his second on 78.

Table and numbers

The brace takes Lankshear to 11 league goals and 13 in all competitions. Bolton keeper Gavin Bazunu made several saves, including three in quick succession in the first half, and the scoreline could have been worse.

Boro’s lead is slim. They sit two points clear of Swansea, who play QPR on Saturday, and three ahead of West Ham, who face Southampton. A big away win keeps the pressure on both.
