Littler starts the hunt for the one title he lacks
Luke Littler beat William O’Connor 6-3 on Friday in the first round of the European Championship in Dortmund, hitting six maximums on the way. The world number one is chasing the only major title he has not yet won, and he now meets Nathan Aspinall in round two.

Van Gerwen falls, Humphries absent
The biggest shock came from the Dutch side. Michael van Gerwen lost 6-3 to compatriot Kevin Doets, who called it a tough game. Luke Humphries pulled out through illness before the event.
Elsewhere, Jermaine Wattimena beat Ryan Joyce 6-3, and Joyce’s trip had its own drama after his luggage went missing and he had to borrow darts from a local collector. Krzysztof Ratajski beat Dave Chisnall 6-2, Jonny Clayton saw off Niko Springer 6-3, Martin Schindler edged Wessel Nijman 6-5 and Josh Rock thrashed Chris Dobey 6-1.
Round two is on Saturday, with every match a best of 19 legs. Defending champion Gian van Veen plays Luke Woodhouse at noon. The evening session from 6pm brings Littler against Aspinall, Ratajski against Doets, Schindler against Wattimena and Clayton against Rock.
