The guest nobody wanted
Ten months ago Hirving Lozano was suspended by San Diego FC after a half-time row with head coach Mikey Varas. On Saturday he walks back into the same stadium wearing a Los Angeles Galaxy shirt.
San Diego loaned him out at the start of August. He was meant to be the face of the club’s expansion season, the signing that made people care. He never played for them again after that October blow-up, and his Galaxy debut came on August 15.
Three appearances since. No goals. No assists.

Three red cards in three matches
Los Angeles (6-8-8, 26 points) have crawled back toward respectability without quite getting there. Six points from five games since July 25, goals four apiece over that run.
In Montreal last Saturday they drew 2-2 with 10 men. Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski went off in the 68th minute. Third red in three games.
“If you’d told me we’d get three reds and still collect four points from three games, I probably wouldn’t have blinked,” coach Greg Vanney said. “But we’re at a point, especially in Montreal when we were ahead, where the three points were the job.”
San Diego did fine without him
The hosts (7-8-6, 27 points) sit above the Galaxy in the West, one point off the playoff line. Four clubs go into the weekend on 28. It is tight enough that Saturday matters beyond the storyline.
They beat Colorado 3-0 at home last week, Onni Valakari opening with his fourth of the season. Marcus Ingvartsen leads the scoring with 11 in MLS, though he has gone 10 matches across all competitions without one. Anders Dreyer has eight.
Ingvartsen has already passed what Lozano managed all of last season. Nine. That number does most of the talking.
“I had a lot of good moments with him last year,” Dreyer said. “I don’t have anything negative to say. It will be interesting on Saturday and I’m looking forward to it.”
