Philadelphia 5, Los Angeles 3. Sixth homer of the year for Sosa, and the first grand slam he has ever hit.
Ben Joyce built the mess before it. The closer plunked Alec Bohm with one out, then walked Justin Crawford and J.T. Realmuto back to back. Wade Meckler had robbed Bryson Stott of a three-run shot at the wall a moment earlier, the kind of catch that usually ends a game rather than prolongs one.

Painter’s first inning cost the Phillies three
The Angels had the night in hand early. Zach Neto walked. Mike Trout singled him along. Meckler drove in the opener. Vaughn Grissom laid down a sacrifice bunt, and then Andrew Painter threw two wild pitches that let Trout and Meckler score without a bat leaving anyone’s shoulder.
Reid Detmers had gone 20 innings without conceding a run. That ended in the fifth: singles from Bohm and Bryan De La Cruz, a Stott fly ball, a Derek Hill bunt down the first-base line.
Philadelphia left more out there. Kyle Schwarber lined a single, De La Cruz broke from third, froze halfway home, and Josh Lowe’s relay cut him down without a throw to spare. Inning over.
Eleven wins from 13
Luis Arraez and Schwarber had two hits apiece. Bohm scored twice. Alex McFarlane got the win with a scoreless relief frame, now 4-1. Jonathan Bowlan came on in the ninth with two aboard and struck out Jose Siri and Adam Frazier for his second save.
The Phillies have taken 11 of their last 13. The Angels have dropped five in a row. Meckler made the catch of the night and drove in a run, and he was standing in the outfield one pitch later watching the season’s cruelest ball land in the rocks.
