Seventy-nine points, if the pace holds
Two losses in 21 games. That is where Nashville SC are: 15 wins, 4 draws, 49 points, three straight league wins since the Leagues Cup knocked them out. Ten points clear of Inter Miami in the East. Nine ahead of Vancouver in the Supporters’ Shield race.
Extend the rate and they finish on 79. Miami’s 74 from two years ago is the record. Almost nobody sustains this in MLS, where the fixture list and the flights across four time zones usually pull a runaway team back toward everyone else by October.
Sam Surridge has 12 goals. Cristian Espinoza has 10 assists.

Callaghan is not letting anyone exhale
Asked Friday whether a team this far ahead risks going flat, B.J. Callaghan gave the answer coaches give.
“Our culture is that we’re always trying to improve and get better. And that doesn’t really change how we approach our weeks, whether we’re winning or losing,” he said. “We’ve got a really good group of players who are also trying to get better individually and in different units, and we’re still a humble, hungry team.”
Words are easy in August. The run-in still decides their playoff seeding, and Nashville have never won anything once the post-season begins.
Cincinnati arrive with an MVP candidate
FC Cincinnati (8-6-7, 31 points) travel on Saturday night. Evander has 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 appearances and has muscled his way into the MVP conversation.
Pat Noonan’s side drew 1-1 at home with Seattle while missing several starters, only their fourth home slip of the season. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi equalised against a rebuilt back line. Matt Miazga was rested, Obinna Nwobodo held back after seven matches in 22 days before coming on for the last five minutes.
“I still think it was the right decision,” Noonan said Thursday. “It’s easy to look at a result or the performance of the 11 guys who started and say what was right or wrong. But from a physical standpoint, we managed Matt. It was planned, and having him available for Nashville made sense.”
The dropped points left Cincinnati sixth in the East, a point behind Charlotte, three behind New England.
