LOU opened their season with a 40-36 win over Clermont at Gerland. The final quarter was messy, but Lyon held on.
The following week, they went to Racing 92 and won 48-31. That away performance is the benchmark for LOU’s start to the season.
Forty-eight points on the road is the sort of return most Top 14 sides would take in a heartbeat. Karim Ghezal has built these wins on clear attacking intent rather than a locked-down defence.
The downside shows up in the points against column: 36, then 31 in the first two rounds. That leakiness is the real question mark ahead of a home clash with the leaders.
Last season’s home record does not exactly scream fortress, with LOU posting the league’s 11th-best return at Gerland (8 wins, 1 draw, 4 defeats). Still, they did win their only home game so far in 2026-2027.
That split between a modest recent past and a perfect start shapes the reading of this game. Lyon are being asked to prove this new status is real.
Their attacking output across the first two rounds stands at 88 points, or 44 per game. Very few Top 14 sides can keep that pace up across a whole season.
So the question for Karim Ghezal’s men is simple enough: can they win without needing to score 40-plus? Hosting the leaders is the first proper test of that kind.

Section Paloise: a league leader whose last result needs context 
Pau sprang a surprise on opening day by winning 27-19 away at Montpellier. They did it without several internationals in the squad.
Last weekend, Section hammered Bayonne 70-28 in front of their own fans. That scoreline needs immediate context.
Bayonne had a red card in the fourth minute, which tilted the match almost from the start. Seventy points against 14 men is not something you can simply carry across to a trip to the team in second place.
That first win, though, does matter. To win at Montpellier with a weakened squad points to squad depth Pau have not always had.
Even so, last season’s away record urges caution: seventh-best return in the league on the road, with 4 wins and 9 defeats. Section have started this campaign with an away win, which changes the mood without erasing the history.
Top spot in the table rewards a strong start, even if half of it came with almost complete numerical advantage. That is exactly why this looks closer than the standings suggest.
Pau have scored 97 points across two matches, 70 of them against Bayonne alone. Take that game out and they are down to 27 points from their other outing, which is a far more modest return than Lyon’s.

The 48-31 win at Racing 92 is the best reference either side has produced since the start of the season. Scoring 48 away at Racing 92 is an attacking marker no other club in the league has matched on the road this year.
Pau’s 70-28 win came against 14 men from the fourth minute, so it is a very shaky form guide. Remove that match from the equation and the two teams look pretty even, with home advantage then swinging things Lyon’s way.
