Lorient vs Monaco – Free Ligue 1 Prediction – 18/10/2026

Lorient vs Monaco: the league’s only unbeaten side visits a defence with three clean sheets Ligue 1

Monaco are the only side in Ligue 1 without a league defeat this season. They’re top on 14 points, one clear, and on Sunday they travel to the Stade du Moustoir to face Lorient, kick-off 17:15 Paris time.

The lead used to be bigger. Last weekend’s 2-2 home draw with Toulouse cut it to a single point, and it was the first time under Filipe Luis that Monaco had dropped points from a winning position. That’s two league games without a win in the last three.

Lorient are eighth, three points behind Lyon in fourth, after a 1-0 win over Paris FC. Alexandre Dujeux’s side have taken points in three of their last four league games after collecting just one from the first two.

There’s a historical twist. Lorient beat Monaco in both league meetings last season, scoring three goals across the two games. Monaco haven’t won a top-flight away game against a Brittany club since a 2-1 win at Rennes in October 2024. Can the Merlus make it three in a row?

The market doesn’t think so. Monaco are around 2.16 to win at the Moustoir. For an away side, that’s a firm vote of confidence, and the data on the visitors’ travelling form explains why.

Lorient: three clean sheets, but the home record is mixed Lorient

Three clean sheets in six games. Only one Ligue 1 side has more. Another one on Sunday would equal Lorient’s total from the 2026 part of last season. Yvon Mvogo made three saves to keep Paris FC out last weekend, and the back three has become the foundation of this team.

Look closer at the home results, though, and the picture shifts. A 2-1 defeat to Troyes. A 2-2 draw with Toulouse. Then the 1-0 over Paris FC. Four points from three games at the Moustoir, and four goals conceded in the first two of them. That’s not a fortress.

The clean sheets have mostly come on the road: 0-0 at Nice, 1-0 at Lens. Different contexts. At home, Lorient tend to open up more, and that’s exactly what a side like Monaco wants.

The injury news is unhelpful. Panos Katseris, Noah Mbamba and Bandiougou Fadiga are all fighting hamstring strains. Katseris in particular gives the side width and energy, and his absence would push more responsibility onto Gabin Bernardeau, who scored his first goal of the campaign last week.

Dujeux can claim successive home league wins on Sunday, something his predecessor Olivier Pantaloni managed only once in 2026. It’s a sign of progress. It’s also a reminder of how rare it’s been.

Monaco: seven points from three away games and depth coming back Monaco

The away record is the case for Monaco. A 1-0 win at Le Havre, a 2-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain, a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg. Seven points from three trips, and a result at the Parc des Princes that tells you everything you need to know about this side’s nerve.

They added another on Thursday. A 2-1 win at CSKA Sofia in the Conference League, with Paris Brunner back among the goals and Ansu Fati scoring the winner. Filipe Luis still hasn’t lost a competitive game in charge.

The Toulouse draw is the obvious concern. Monaco led and couldn’t close it out, and that’s a habit leaders can ill afford. Edan Diop and Matthis Abline both scored that day, and the attack keeps producing. It’s game management that’s slipped.

Squad news is positive. Mamadou Coulibaly sat on the bench in Sofia and could return from a hamstring injury. Takumi Minamino, back from a torn ACL, started in midweek and is chasing his first Ligue 1 appearance of the season. More options, more rotation, fresher legs.

A win or draw would give Monaco points in each of their first four league away games for the first time since 2023-24. The numbers suggest that’s well within reach.

Probable lineup Lorient: Mvogo; Adjei, Talbi, Toure; Sylla, Le Bris, Bernardeau, Kouassi; Makengo, Kone, Jensen
Probable lineup Monaco: Hradecky; Vanderson, Sane, Dier, Nazinho; Camara, Zakaria; Diop, Abline, Golovin; Brunner

Our prediction: Monaco to win (odds around 2.16)

Monaco have seven points from three away games, including a win at PSG, and they’re unbeaten in all competitions under Filipe Luis. They also scored twice in each of their last two league games. Lorient’s home form, four points from three with four conceded in two of them, doesn’t match their road defence.

The hosts’ hamstring problems hit the wing-backs hardest, and that’s where Monaco’s width, Vanderson and Nazinho pushing on with Diop and Golovin inside, will look to hurt them. Add Coulibaly and Minamino coming back into the squad, and the visitors have the stronger bench too.

Last season’s results give Lorient a reason to believe. This season’s numbers give Monaco the edge. At around 2.16, we’re backing the leaders to bounce back from the Toulouse draw.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
