Five years for the Dane, at the very end of the window
June 2031. That is the date on Maurits Kjaergaard’s contract, confirmed by LOSC on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Danish midfielder leaves RB Salzburg for a five-year deal. The length tells you plenty about the thinking. Lille are not padding the squad in the closing hours, they are buying someone they expect to build around.
Kjaergaard is a Denmark Under-21 international and has never played in Ligue 1.

136 matches and five European campaigns at 23
The numbers reward a closer look. Kjaergaard made 136 appearances for Salzburg with 19 goals and 33 assists, played five Champions League campaigns and won three Austrian titles, all before his 24th birthday.
Very few players landing in Ligue 1 at that age carry that sort of European mileage. The Red Bull production line pushed him up early in Salzburg and he never dropped back out of the XI.

A Lille window going both ways
Lille have sold plenty this summer. Felix Correia went to La Liga on Tuesday morning. An agreement worth 60 million euros with Newcastle for Matias Fernandez-Pardo has also been reported by Foot Mercato.
The northern club are putting that money straight back to work. After Ayase Ueda, signed through 2028, Kjaergaard is the second notable arrival of this closing stretch.
